After a dry start just back from town in time before the heavy rain started.
As it was raining I spent the time watching the Troping of The Colour. It may look a waste of time but for the ones taking part it means a lot. We may have many things wrong as county but as some one who knows. To pull off drill like that takes some doing and team work no one else can do it like we do.
The whole thing is full of odd facts. Here's a few , When part of the escort to and for the colour it's the only time a Warrant Office draws his sward on parade. The drum horses of The Mounted Band of the Household Cavalry officially hold the rank of major. Todays two included Juno who is the 1st female drum horse. The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery is the most diverse part of the Army 60% of it's members are Women. Not for getting the massed bands spinwheel turning a full 90° turn how it work no one knows. It's not written down or formal instructions. It's all word of month past down the years. which makes it even more of wonder.
is the canal still open?
Todays home made bread used up the last of the 16kg of brown bread flour I bought last autumn. Had to top up slightly with plain flour. That together with bread & butter pudding saw the milk bought this morning opened and depleted by at least a third.

You could just about squeeze a narrow boat through as long as there is enough depth of water close to the left hand bank
About forty years ago, I was offered two tickets for the Trooping of the Colour, from someone who could not go.
That was an opportunity not to be missed. It meant a very early start, and lots of waiting around, but that was well worth it.
I have the Edison Phonograph to play them on as well.Ooh! I've got some wax cylinders!
@tyred - if you're in Dumfries & Galloway you could do part of the new Kirkpatrick C2C route through southern Scotland: https://scotlandstartshere.com/kirkpatrickc2c
I'm looking at it as a 'possible' in August.
