All this talk about boiler repairs and £££s is making me think boiler cover could be a really good idea?

How old is your boiler ? The one in our old house was 20 years old and more reliable - I think because there were fewer parts to go wrong and more simple to replace.

Good question, well put and until I get home and look at the noted I made for the new house, I don't know but I do think it was quite new as in 2-5 years old max. These houses have open fires not central heating because there's no mains gas. They have now gone over to bottled gas for the central heating using around 4 bottles a year apparently. Those big orange bottles that I grew up with for a gas aga!

Thats a bonus, I've managed to persuade the gas fire to light, we have heat, I just hope it stays lit

I saw an interesting looking baked apple recipe that I thought might impress my kids... a house up the road was offering surplus cooker apples for free so I haven't tried this yet but will tomorrow.
