He'll slow down ......................................................................................................eventually. ^_^
A friend and I walked our dogs along a footpath on a river bank yesterday and were watching them swim and play in the shallows when they were joined by an absolutely gorgeous six month old Golden Retriever. The owners turned up shortly after and we all had great fun watching the pup and our two race round and round, only narrowly avoiding collisions with our legs. They commented that it was funny watching their dog have a mad five minutes outside; less so in the house. I cheerfully informed them that they grow out of it eventually ... then mentioned that our two (Labrador and Collie) were nine. The look of horror on their faces was a treat.

Karma kicked arse though: after they'd persuaded the pup to leave her new friends and accompany them back home, my fool decided to swim out to the deepest section, which is also the bit where the current is strongest. She performed the canine equivalent of hovering by matching the current's strength as she tried to swim against it, then gave it up as a bad job, turned round and surfed downstream to the shallows. I was momentarily relieved that no rescue attempt was necessary but that didn't last long as she decided she'd had so much fun that she swam out and did it all over again. And again. Then she and the collie had another mad five minutes, which did absolutely nothing to shift the gallons of water from her coat but did result in me being covered from head to foot in mud.
