He'd been ill for some time.

Eddie ran Paul Warwick in F3 - a one-off outing in the 1987 Cellnet Superprix at Brands, then for a full season of F3 in 1988. Not the most successful season for the team - actually EJR's last season of F3. It yielded two 3rd places and a single pole for Paul.

Most of the available funds were being diverted to the F3000 operation as their main F3000 sponsor (Q8 Petroleum) had decided to up sticks to Roni Motorsport. And, already by then, Eddie was starting to look at F1 as well.

A bit of a shock result for pole in the sprint race!
Who saw Hamilton out qualifying the field?

Lawson last , bring back Checo ?
He's just not used to the car yet. Apparently couldn't get the tyres cooled enough so went off.
I did see something somewhere which suggests that the car design suits Verstappen so much that it is really difficult to manage for other drivers.

He's in a top F1 team and should be able to do the simple stuff at least.

Hadjar qualified a very creditable 7th for the main race, ahead of Yuki Moanover.

I can’t remember who said it.
But if a normal car driver got into any F1 car on the grid we wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. We would be in the gravel after turn one.
F1 cars are driven by very specific people with certain skill sets.

I think also the jump from even F2 to F1 is huge in terms of skills needed.

I've driven a Formula 2000 (restricted) at Thruxton and the Formula Silverstone Single Seater at Silverstone's Stowe circuit and it's amazing both how fast (and terrifying - especially at Thruxton where you are sharing the track with Ferraris, Jags etc all of whom are about 3 times your size) they feel even at between 100 and 120mph and how exhausted you feel after a 20 minute session. The Formula Silverston and F2000 are dead easy to drive (although a bugger to change gear in). For me slightly challenging to see out of as I'm quite short in the leg and they aren't *that* adaptable!

I totally recommend doing this - it gives you a new found respect for F1 drivers.

Interesting times. Wuthell now only single point behind Verstappen as they battle for 2nd in the championship, and Antonelli is level in points with LeClerc, both ahead of Ramilton.

Lewis must be kicking himself, assuming he could take sufficient timemout from moaning tomkick anything, although he's probably not too upset over the money.

On the other hand, he's running out of excuses and places to hide. A single spring win does not a viable career make. His cocky post sprint comments about critics "yapping" haven't aged well.

It's amazing how people can watch the same thing and draw very different conclusions. The sprint showed that when the Ferrari is in the right window it is a race winning car. No wonder Hamilton was buoyed up. The setup tweaks for the main race didn't work as they planned and made the car less drivable not better. I'd imagine he will still be massively re-motivated having beaten the guy who has been driving the car for 5 years in the second race of the season.

The main disappointment will be the disqualification which the drivers have no part in.

McClaren are demonstrating their superiority and Mercedes will be pleased with their improvements but their car isn't showing any indications of being championship winning.
