Regarding all the very public handbags at 10 paces stuff from Verstappen et al, personally I don't like it. It's demeaning childish and detracts from what is already a failing sport IMO (and perhaps that's why they're being egged on)
I get why they're doing it, to get inside others heads...should that be what the sport I used to love, be about...no. it just drives me further away from it.

There's always been an element of needle in the sport, mainly between team mates, because your team mate is the one driver you *have* to beat if nothing else. It was less evident up until the 1980s when F1 became more widely televised. Once it became mainstream on TV and in the printed press, you kind of got to notice it more.

Piquet Sr used to be the master of needle back in the day, usually coming up with some pretty nasty put-downs if things weren't going his way. I guess Max is now learning from this Guru of Rude.

Yeah , Piquet went so far as to say he couldn't understand why Mansell's wife was so ugly , disgusting character but a great driver . Craig Slater is like the News of the World columnist , loving this sleaze and wallowing in it, Slater I find quite obnoxious . Netflix will be loving this F1 soap opera . We need another Derek Warwick ( an what a great guy Derek was ) who ran after Schumacher when he intentionally chopped the nose of his Group C car at the Ring ( about 1990 ish ) Warwick had to be restrained by Jochen Mass from beating the bejayziz out of Schu . Derek cornered the muddaf***er in a team caravan . All this " he said , she said " rubbish is a pain in de hole. Jos was another fiery douchesac . Mansell did not rise to the Piquet bait and did his talking on the track . There were some great British racers back in those days . drove bad F1 machinery with skill and balls of steel , David Purley , Brian Henton , Mark Blundell and others too. I really admired those guys

Mansellmania passed me by - I'm a longstanding fan of both Warwick brothers, and I maintain a large archive of assorted Warwick-related ephemera.

The incident you're talking about took place at the Nurburgring 1000kms meeting in 1991, just after Paul was killed at Oulton Park. I can't blame Derek for losing it and chasing Michael around the paddock, eventually cornering him in a briefing room. He had Michael bent backwards over a table, starting to give him the old what for (egged on by Jean-Louis Schlesser, who incidentally was one of Michael's team-mates at Mercedes). I kind of blame Jochen Mass for getting Derek to stop, as I've always found myself wondering what kind of person Michael would've been if Derek *had* bashed that obnoxious streak out of him...

Having said that, back in stock cars, Derek used to leave the bashing to his Uncle Stan...

FWIW, Derek is a really sweet and lovely man. Kind, warm, loyal and irritatingly self deprecating. But don't even think about waking the dragon, else you'll wake up somewhere in the middle of next week! When it comes to me, he probably sees me as the idiot clutzy woman who gets so tongue-tied each time we meet that she can barely get a coherent sentence out.

Common misconception about the routing of my plumbing.

Reynard Cars sponsored my MEng year at uni back in the 90s. I worked on a research dissertation for them relating to their then Champ Car project. You know, the usual "we don't think this will work, so we'll give it to the engineering undergrad student to try" kind of thing LOL. Though I worked with Guillaume Roquelin back then.

So yeah. It's been my internet handle since the days the WWW was only there for geeks and students LOL

No doubt about that but he's motivated by his anger where as Russell is a 'run to teacher' type in the F1 playground.

D'you think? I think it's more that - a bit like button - he suffers from a basic british sense of sportsmanship and decency and can't really comprehend people pushing the edges of the rules.

He suffers a lack of that. He's the Piquet Snr type.
He went to the media saying Verstappen was swearing at him in the stewards room, the FIA reported that wasn't true and he's not mentioned it again, nor apologised.

Hamilton offered his hand to Leclerc after the race as Leclerc waiting to do Rosberg interview. Leclerc shakes hands but the look he gives Hamilton you could read his mind " Wait till next year when you're in red , I will drive rings round you and make you look like a f**k**g novice ". .. and he will
