Aye, a bolt from the blue. Gotta feel for Ramilton, he's a bit of a prat but there's no taking away that he drove a tidy race and to have the result snatched away must be galling.

Wolff, on the other hand, is in the media prattling on about how they've made a step forward with the car. Well, no, he hasn't really - if the springing, damping and ride height required to achieve that gain aare such that the car is left illegal at rhe end of a race they haven't achieved anything. Slacken the set up to allow the plank to stay within wear limits and much of that gain is going to disappear. Wuthell, who was running the older spec to act as an index for comparison, wasn't doing very well, and that's where Lewis will be when they alter the settings back to protect the plank.

Some booing for Max, but there was a huge Mexican contingent at the race so the Perez fans were out in force. I don't really see ze dutchman as being responsible for Perez's woes, but that's sports rans for you.

Crazy only allowing 1 hour set up before putting the cars into parc ferme

Yet the other teams managed it just fine, and Mercedes themselves manage it at every other race. It stops the teams running radical set ups purely for qualifying, and makes the qualifying car more representative of the car the driver will actually race in.

And there's nothing stopping the teams altering the set up in they so choose, the consequence of that being a pitlane start. Mercedes made their choice.

It may just be a mistake, we'll see the next race.

Ricciardo didn't do well, perhaps not surprising coming back from an injury like that. He needs to up his game though, particularly as Tsunoda seems to have finally taken the hint.

What a farce !
Unless they check all the cars they could promote illegal cars !
Maybe
They used to check all that finished in the points, plus the other car in the same team if it finished outside the points, if the other was found to be "illegal".

Were there rumours flying round the pits at the end of the race? Brundle passed a comment on Jo Bauer at the end of the race as he was seen around the first three cars.

It wasn't clear from the reportage whether every team gets scrutinised or just random cars. If the latter, then that is uncertain. Both Ferrari and Merc have said it's down to the unique characteristics of the circuit which is very bumpy.

It's random, the rules permit the cars to be scrutinised as they see fit, albeit theyre usually guided by certain indicators.

In the case of the planks an excess of sparks, or the distinctive aroma of a heavily abraded plank may be sufficient to attract further attention. Verstappen's was one of the other cars inspected but seemingly was OK.
