The Brawn car was a bit of a lash-up, with a crude - in engineering terms - adaptor plate made to mate the gearbox to an engine it was never designed for. Yet somehow it hit a sweet spot and worked well. In pre-season testing Button and Barichello were gobsmacked by how good it was when it had been expected to be well down the midfield. Button describes it in some detail in his autobiography.

Cash was so tight that the drivers had to pay for their own flights and travel to each race.

Yes, it was very much a throwback to the 1970s and the "garagiste" teams.

Did I ever mention @Reynard that my Dad's first full time job was working for Vanwall?

Only found out myself fairly recently when he came to visit and we took the dog for a walk. He was surprised that I live just up the lane from Mallock Sports and that started him off reminiscing about the olde days and his first job in motorsport.

I think you might have done.

Ah, I know (or at least did know) a fair few folk from RML back in the day when they ran cars in the ASCAR series at Rockingham. Also went for a job interview there back in the late 90s, but didn't get it. You may have just revealed your location to me

Mind, I live just up the road from Sonny Howard's workshops. He builds the Pickup trucks as well as Escort Mk1 replicas. Used to build and prepare hot rods back in the day, as well as Superstox and rally cars.

Grid looking good for the BTCC tomorrow.

The Formula E race from Monaco was good. Not brilliant, but good.
I hope it's dryer for race day as it was somewhat soggy down there this afternoon. Have a look at qualifying in ITV's youtube channel for evidence.

You *really* don't want to be using GFRP on an F1 car. Not unless you want the thing to do a collapso in an impact, have suspension components pulling free of the tub and provide a driver with blancmange-like handling due to a lack of torsional stiffness. ;)

I reckon they use chop strand Matt from a spray gun!!! 🤔🤣🤔🤣🤔🤣

Yeah, he has form for slicing his way though when he's angry and driven enough to do so. It's not a cert but I wouldn't put is past him doing so today. He'll be in the top 3 within 6 laps.
