Weather forecast still says wet.
Wind is from East / North-East, which could have been interesting for echelon chaos if it was a little stronger, but might make for a pretty quick edition and a struggle to get back on if you get dropped for any reason

Wet weather would improve Pedersen's and Pogacar's chances. IIRC MVDP doesn't go so well in the rain does he (relatively speaking as a CXer)

I mean phsyiologically rather than from a bike handling POV. PR21 was his superior bike handling that put him in front, but famously WC19 in Harrogate he bonked after 250k in the rain. Tirrenno in 2021 (I think) he did a monster ride but was physically ruined aftrwards

There hasn't been a 2x winner for quite a while now, so if that trend continues, Pog might finally get one.

It's difficult one for pog ....he needs that solo gap but is not the fastest down hill . I have never seen anyone go solo or a small group from the cipressa since I have been watching 1992 onwards . Ja ja tried the year he won ... Modest group on the poggio with fondriest iirc . Maybe UAE get creative and get riders up the road? Can't see anyone letting that happen.

Can't imagine how a CX multiple World Champ doesn't thrive in rain?

For an hour.

Plenty of riders have won solo, usually by attacking at the bottom of the Poggio and the others looking to each other to chase. That seems his likeliest chance, especially as the likes of vdP and WvA have decent sprints so would probably be in the "not chase" group.

Fingers crossed for Jasper for Saturday.

'I had nowhere to go,' said Jasper, who had to finish the race in an ambulance. 'This is really disappointing because I was feeling great and had my sights set on the win.'

He suffered multiple abrasions and required stitches on his right hand.

We’ll have to see how our sprinter recovers overnight before deciding whether he will defend his title at Milan-San Remo on Saturday. We’ll update you as soon as we have more news.

1996 according to Inner Ring. It was a group of 4.
