Phils still dead

I don't get the joking about someone dieing.

People may not be Royalists, I get that. But if your parent died today, or maybe they are already, would you find it funny if the day after someone asked you if your dad was still dead?

I think you wouldn't, indeed you would probably find it quite offensive, so why do it about someone else's dad?

It's not your dad, or anyone's on here.

Unless any of the regal tribe are here, in which case sorry for your loss.

But a good age, and peacefully at home, no better way to go.

.
And for anyone who has lost anyone recently, but not had such a hoo ha made about it - sorry for your loss too.

It's hard isn't it?

Pretty much all my senior, and some contemporary rellies are deceased now, including both parents.

Me and some mates even had a 'dead dads' club for a while when we seemed to be losing them at an alarming rate.

People deal with death in different ways.

Our parents, didn't expect a massive fuss made.

By all accounts Phil didnt either.

It's a cynical comment on the media reaction to the situation. It is not a personal sharpened stick poking directed at the grieving.

However, if you put yourselves out there, thrust yourselves into everybody's attention you can expect some flack. You have therefore made it impersonal.

You've made literally thousands of posts on here instructing us all to be more kind, particularly to women.

"He's still dead" is the type of remark I'd expect from the likes of me.

Unless everything in your world really is a gender battle, which is often how it appears.

Conflate much?

You missed the context.

So we can make tasteless jokes about anyone dieing on the basis they aren't related to anyone on here then? Is that what you are saying?

Because I reckon you would be all over a comment like 'Is [insert any of the many recent high profile deaths here] still dead'

If you are going to make jokes about someones relative dieing, then it stands that you are ok with others doing the same about someone else's relative dieing.

Or was it just an ill-judged attempt at humour, but you, like a lot of posters on here, feel that once you have taken a position you can't apologise for it being tasteless and just back down?

Missed the point again, it was a satire of the thread topic. Not personal. Get some Nuance.

Well you can expect the unexpected then - or do you get to decide who makes which observations and when ??

He is still dead - the commentary is on the fact that the news is not going to change - not that I'm pleased about the fact.

Although a 99 year old gentleman dying peacefully at home is just about the best and indeed kindest outcome that anyone can expect really.

Not so lucky for many others - who's deaths, nor lives, are not nearly so peaceful.

No idea how you're work all this up up into a 'gender battle' - but i guess that's for you to decide.

afaik Phil, being quite a brisk sort of a chap, would have thought all this maudlin coverage completely over the top.

Are you going to call out the people who liked it as well? Just wondering how outraged you are.

If i was the paranoid sort I'd almost surmise it was the source of the post, rather than the post itself, thats caused the problem.

I'm pretty sure worse things have been written above, about how its all a complete load of bahooolix etc etc -

Did those posters get quite such a telling orf ??

No i thort not ...:okay:
