That is what it t says in Wikipedia and if any of that is untrue, it is nothing to do with me. Note the reference to an estimated 10,000 cyclists, making us as much a part of the tradition.

Especially when you look at the finishing times for that first run on the Wiki page. The fastest finisher averaged 13.91mph, and I don't suppose that was managed by sticking to a 14mph limit.

And this article, cited on the wiki page, brought to you by the wayback machine, says a girl was "knocked down" by one of the competitors on the approach to Crawley.
