Like, er this sort of thing, then? The thing that you don't need to use so often if you have... quick links.

Invaluable to have in your bag if the chain breaks, though.

BTW, I've never had a problem opening a quick link with standard pliers.

I'm surprised nobody is marketing the bent piece of wire that holds the chain together after you have removed the friggin 'magic link', I already have the Elastoplast.

When you meet the awkward one, you will understand.
( The link, that is)
I dunno about KMC, but if an SRAM link doesn't open, the correct procedure is to stop swearing, walk around the room once or twice, take a swig of beer or tea and then do it again calmly. It's usually just because you've forgotten the correct action and have started to wrestle with it.

I believe that the SRAM link is held together by a sharp edge, which is damaged when you pop it off and that SRAM say they should only be used once. I know they are easier than KMC links which are reusable.

I believe that this is for their 10 speed and above chains....one reason why I only buy KMC for my 10 speed bikes. Not had any problems reusing the missing link on my SRAM chain on my 9 speed commuter....]

You mean one of these? And yes I bought one

I can't recall whether I've got SRAM or KMC chains which may account for why I can never get the farking links open. See look, I'm swearing now and I'm only thinking about undoing one of the bastard things

With arthritic and slightly deformed fingers the chain link pliers have been an absolute godsend. My next investment will be one of those tools for fitting and tightening cable ties.
