Just hope Mr G Davies gets the slot .

Not the medallion man, sweet baby Jesus no!

Could be a direct replacement for Steve Wright though, and let's have Noel Edmunds as well whilst we're at it. 😂

R1 plays all rap
R2 plays quite a variation of pop
R3 and R4 can't be many who listen to them
R6 plays the new stuff trying to break through and alot of rubbish
So where's the national station that will play indie, rock band type music new and old, eh. We need one!

Us R4 addicts are many and varied.
R2 is dull as ditchwater, it's not the music, it's the presenters, Bruce is at least benign dull, Wright was just utterly utterly dreadful.
But hey, it's popular....

R6 music for me or selected specialist music channels/progs ss the mood takes me.

But the music ain't half as good now!!

So very very true!

Seeing as I am feeling disagreeable today I have to disagree with you two fine fellows. 😅

There is stacks of good new music pouring out every week, never has the ability of artists to access the world of listeners been easier. We can can now tap into a much larger talent pool than ever before. Mercifully, the likes of Spotify make it easier to filter out any dross.

My boyhood heroes were Zep, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Bowie etc and I very occasionally dip back in but to me, the pleasure is short-lived. I get bored easily with repetition and, despite the best efforts of digital remastering, the sound stage often sounds very compressed (not the artist's fault tbh but tedious nonetheless) but the real kicker for me is the absence of multi-layering of the tracks. This can sound bare to me.

There's obviously no wrong or right re musical tastes it's just a matter of opinion after all.

Here, we listen to about 90% Contemporary Pop (across a number of different sub-genres) of high quality, the rest being predominantly EDM.

It might be interesting to Google "why do some people listen to old music?" There is some fascinating psychology involved.

One takeout is that for the majority of people their later life musical tastes reflect their youth or a particularly good period of their life - and most are 'locked' by their early thirties; estimates vary but 80-90% seems a decent range. These listeners will never be happy with 'new stuff' which is fair enough; each to their own.

I'm pretty sure that describes a big chunk of 6Music's output!

That just makes us even more special, and worthy of your respect 😇 😏

Oh, for the great days of John Peel

I'm glad there was the likes of John Peel giving new talent a leg up on the ladder, but I'm also happy to leave others to be the guinea pigs. I prefer to consume my music after all the chaff has been winnowed out. (I used to like JP's R4 show though)

I disagree about digital remastering - prefer the original recordings which sound more atmospheric and real. Remastering to me seems to throw much of the baby out with the bathwater....

Agree however that there's plenty of good music around today!
