I have bought one thing from John Lewis in the last 10 years, and it wasn't for Christmas. We make a deal of their adverts, but who actually shops there?

We do for big electrical things, and have bought a few bits of furniture there over the years. They offer a two year guarantee over most other places' one.

Customer service has always been excellent for us too, which seems to be a bit of a dying art.

We buy all our White Goods and Tech from them pus some furniture (best showroom display of testable mattresses anywhere.)

Product knowledge of staff and Customer service is outstanding.

Their product range does not go a low as the sheds some of whom do sell some dodgy brands and very low prices ie JL do not sell crap. But if you want (eg) a dishwasher they sell, it will be cheaper than anywhere else. Plus, unlike most of the sheds, they operate a virtual warehouse system and do not actually hold stocks of lots of white goods - our Bosh washing machine was ordered on line from JL, at the best on line price I could find anywhere, and delivered not by JL but by Bosh directly. ie there is no incentive for the JL salesman to recommend an item just because they have a large stock and the next model is due.

Great company. Great service.

On Thursday evening at about 6.0 Mrs Dave and I walked past the Cambridge John Lewis on the way to the cinema. There was a massive queue outside, maybe 200 people!
We wondered what it was, and assumed it was a fashion show or such like. Turns out the sad bastards were queuing up to watch the advert!

Yep, mostly electrical / tech stuff. Longer guarantees, same prices as Currys etc. And they actually honour those guarantees unlike some which have endless Ts&Cs
Brother works for them too, have to support his bonus

We buy lots of stuff from John Lewis. Our T.V, washing machine, tumble dryer, toaster and kettle are recent purchases as well as clothes, perfume and jewellery. I think we bought all our our Christmas presents last year online at JL.com and picked them up from Waitrose down the road 2 days later. Hassle free. Job done.

Thanks for your responses to my question, it looks like mostly white goods that people buy (and Reg buying his stockings). Perhaps I should check them out.

Reg's stockings, or the white goods?

For anyone who's a bit snobby about Aldi, this has just dropped through my letterbox, there's some tempting looking stuff in there.
