My mate Charlie - keen cyclist, worked outdoors all his life, fit as a butcher's dog. His mother died around 60 with heart disease. He's just had a massive bypass op at the age of 56. The good thing is that his general fitness and whippet-like physique means he has recovered much more quickly and thoroughly. So even if you have a hereditary heart problem, you are doing yourself a favour by being fit and healthy.

Sorry about your friend, @SatNavSaysStraightOn.

Im a firm believer of when your numbers up, your numbers up, no point worrying about it or trying to change things, just do what makes you happy, and peg it when it comes !

There's no point doing something that makes us unhappy, you only get one go at this so enjoy doing what you want to do every day, and if you don't stop doing it. [That's always much easier to say than do mind...]

There's a bloke who lives across the road from me. He had a stroke the other week after playing golf. He's in his 70's but has always looked after himself, running walking healthy eating etc. Some might question if it was worth it,but i reckon him being fit will help him make not a full but a suitable recovery whereas if he'd been a slob he'd be dead by now.

It's very clear to me that the danger is not fitness but golf. Be smart, kids.... don't do golf, nkay?
