@Fubar dates would be when there are no school hols neither in Scotland or in England, June sometimes, like last year. Would this be agreeable?
We could get there any way we want to - @flyingfifi and I would be cycling some, route not sussed yet ^_^

June would probably be fine. I did look at cycling routes to Oban when we came back from Mull but couldn't see an obvious/easy route and I don't think the main road is suitable - way too much heavy traffic heading for the ferries.

You know me so well!!
My main present to myself was bought a couple of weeks ago from this very forum.
Got a couple of front panniers too; Ortlieb ones to match the rear ones I already have. Now for some decent weather to go touring.....
Tuesday looks ok. ^_^

The weather in France certainly looks better than here on the Ayrshire coast!

Don't know what santa will be bringing me, but judging by the not-very-subtle questions the girls were asking, it'll be bike related. Which may be quite frustrating, as I'm going to be sidelined for another week at least. Just off the crutches following a coming together with an icy road.

Sorry to hear that!
Really, with our climate, if you want to cycle ally year, you need a set of studded tyres.
Ok, it's like tiding a mini tractor, but if you check temperatures forehand you only need to use them a few weeks in winter.
GWS!

You don't say!
My present to myself has the same name as yours, just better gearing, flat bars, and of course it's two sizes smaller
Told the shop to keep it till after the new year, because I don't have a day off to pick it up.

That is a cracking bike Pat! I was looking at one of them last year and loved it. Was very tempted at the time, and if it had been reduced to the price you got yours at, I may well have bought it. The colour looks great too. I love the Croix de Fer (been a naughty boy and used it a few times before Santa had the chance to deliver it). Managed a 40 miler on it last week. You're right about the gearing though - I will need to replace the 12/28 cassette for something more suited to the hills and my weedy legs! A 32 tooth low gear will do the trick.
