Got my kit list finalised, now waiting on bits to arrive from ROSE Bikes of Germany.
I am chafing at the delay, wanted to have left already :cursing:

In an attempt to claw back lost time I thought I'd find out about expediting my journey - Glasgow to Portsmouth by train is about £160, Glasgow to Southampton by air is £69. This country

I got £74. Working on the assumption you'd be going early Tuesday.

Yeah, it is possible to get decent savings by splitting the ticket. It shows how ridiculously broken the pricing model is that split ticketing is so effective.
The problem is with getting bike reservations to go along with your split ticket.

Can get it down to about £58 if I switch at Crewe, but I am the worst person in the world where it comes to making train connections.
Also, I can't book a ticket yet because I don't have an ETA for the bits arriving from Germany.

This was direct, no change of train required. Using the assumptions given above.

Direct service Glasgow-Portsmouth? How?

Only direct service Scotland to the South Coast as far as I know is the Crosscountry to Exeter-Portsmouth-Penzance. Sadly CrossCountry don't give very good advance fare discounts.

If you can survive the seats, the shortest cheap option might be the sleeper to London, then an off-peak to Portsmouth.

Given as a direct service, with no changes required.

Exeter-Plymouth-Penzance
FTFY (sorry!)

I looked at this, but the bike+sleeper option requires bagging the bike up and it possibly getting couriered, and I'll have a ton of luggage.

Easiest would be a Virgin train to Euston, then hoof across to Waterloo and get the SW train to Portsmouth and ideally straight onto the overnight ferry.
Alternatively Glasgow->Wolverhampton->Southampton->Portsmouth would involve more transfers but less time-critical hoofing across an unfamiliar city
