FTFY (sorry!)
Oops, quite right. Harbour cities starting with P. Difficult to remember...

I looked at this, but the bike+sleeper option requires bagging the bike up and it possibly getting couriered, and I'll have a ton of luggage.
There's bike racks on the sleeper in the luggage compartment in the same car as the seats (unless they use different train sets on the lowland sleeper these days). I used it last year on my trip to the highlands.

Easiest would be a Virgin train to Euston, then hoof across to Waterloo and get the SW train to Portsmouth and ideally straight onto the overnight ferry.
Indeed, if you have a late night ferry that does sound like the best option. Shouldn't be too difficult a navigation across the big smoke.

You look terrified Colin!
Well done, I would have passed out for real, don't like heights one bit.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared but I don't think any normal person would be any different, I've always wanted to do it and now I can say I have

I currently have zero assembled bikes or I'd be out every day (he lied, vigorously).

It was definitely premature of me to disassemble the Focus and put it into storage.

Lucked out with travel scheduled for the week canceled (not surprising, spanish customers tend to make promises they can't keep...).

Nice weather, some wind, just a short band of rain. Should have been a century ride but had to abort due to a calamity of simultaneous mishaps. Settled for 147 km.

I've forgotten how to go a bike again, send help

Will that solve my lack of motivation?
Get out on the bike and the motivation will come back. I absolutely adored the first 20 miles of the Arran ride. Just annoyed that I didn't follow up on it as it was the happiest I've been since my Tenerife trip. (Not that that would be difficult )
