@Telemark @Brandane I had made my mind up to get the train when I was reminded of the major engineering works between Edinburgh and Glasgow that start this coming weekend. No trains between Croy and Edinburgh and limited bike facilities on the the southern link. So, back to Plan A - take the car. Will I get parked OK around the start?
Aaaargh, public transport!!
Thanks for the heads up. Looks like either:
1. Train to Linlithgow then a ride to Edinburgh.
2. Take my chances on the Airdrie line.
3. Drive.

I don't think Cross Country trains run late enough, as they carry on to Birmingham or Penzance and the like. Haven't checked the timetable though as I'm posting from work on phone. Have used X country before and they are nicer trains than the commuter ones.

I thought three out of the four train lines between Edinburgh & Glasgow are still running? The trains arriving into Edinburgh around 9:30/10pm might not be all that busy.. I can see why they issue the warning, but outwith main rush hour and daytime travel I can't see it being a huge problem?

There will be parking around the area, it appears that parking is free north of Pilrig Street, the Council parking map shows all the pay-parking zones. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I don't know the area well enough to know if there are less safe and more safe places around Leith... as far as I am concerned, there be dragons ;).

Nice ride, especially after work.

Mine too, the back as well ... have spent all day (9hours) gardening
Honestly, I'm not as young as I used to be: between emptying a full compost bin, half a tonne bag of top soil, building 2 raised beds, weeding half dozen vegetable beds, trimming half a hedge, feel a bit bushed now
Only half a hedge was trimmed because the hedge trimmer died of the death I rescued it from last summer - had cut through the wire
Had to sort of finish the job with hand shears :training:

What a day! Largs to Dumfries via Ayr, Maybole, Dalmellington, Carsphairn, Moniaive, and Dunscore. 104 miles in the sun. Now on the train heading home to recover from the never ending climbs. Never, ever, want to see a hill again or ride 100 miles, @pat5mph !
Well done. I still haven't done a 100 mile ride and not sure I want to. Must have been hard work climbing in that heat.

Oh, and it is a certain young @Louch ,s birthday today so a happy birthday to him. :birthday:

Ready for PfS then?
I did a 100km couple of years ago with a friend on a very hot day: never again, the two of us almost fell out because of my grumpiness.
Definitely, I am a cool weather cyclist
