Just another thought, can you all drink and eat on the bike? ie, peeling bananas, unwrapping food etc, or will you need to stop?

I'm just trying to get a flavour of how to lead the ride.
I can reach the front bottle but not the rear - once front bottle is empty I need to stop to switch them around. I can't ride 'no hands', and wobble one handed but so long as the bar is already open I can probably put it in my mouth. And yes, I really am as rubbish as I sound on the bike :banghead:

Edit : by 'bar' I mean nut bar, not the pub

I need to pop in to Halfords tonight to get a spare inner tube. I have tyre levers already. Is there anything else I need?

I'll be taking 4 nut bars. A handful of boiled sweets. 2 gels. 2 water bottles. I'll have breakfast when I leave home at 7 in the morning, then eat a banana in the car park before jumping on the ferry. Shouldn't need much more to eat during the day except maybe a cuppa and a cake!

Wearing a bib shorts. A short sleeved top and a armless gillete (which is just a wind cheat, gives no real warmth). Might have another t-shirt on if it looks too cold. Won't be taking a rain mack unless rain is threatened.

This is all I had (less the gillet) for the DD but then that ended up being quite a warm day.

^_^

Paul,
It's common in london to use bike lights during the day. Would you recommend on IoW?

I will have an emergency gel for the very reason Bridgy mentions so only if I bonk

Small packet of wet wipes always a good idea and some people like disposable gloves to keep hands clean in event of a mechanical

I'll be taking lights too just in case. Hopefully won't need them but sunset is 7pm and the ferry back is 5pm so any unexpected delays and the ride back to Brockenhurst could start to get quite gloomy

Sorry... we should just say at this point that these are @bobinski's personal views and have nothing to do with his geographical location. They should in no way be considered representative, or used against, London cyclists or people from the south east in general. We're not all giant pansies. Thank you.

Well, apparently you are less of a giant pansie than you were^_^

And I am not sharing my wet wipes with any of you lot that liked TT's post:tongue:
