I have zero experience. My first and only group ride was at the DD in May .... and to be fair, the group had gone within 5 miles so it was really a solo ride for me

Don't worry Carl, we'll bring up the rear and come into our own on the downhills

In all seriousness, I'll be more comfortable at the back. I'm slow going up hill, and as @Breedon will confirm, you don't want to be behind me going down hill as I ride on my breaks the whole way. At junctions I struggle to get out of my cleats. I can't get my water without looking for where the bottle is, which means I'm no longer looking at the rode. Yeah, you guys are going to have some fun with me in the group .... keep you focused all day long I will

Some clubs are too shouty all the time, but not all, half the battle is finding the right one for you.

I predict we split on the hills, I've heard rumours of scores to be settled

Yeah-everyone, you will hear TT coming up behind you coz of his whooshy wheels. It will normally be near the top of something ;)

I agree and it's refreshing hearing someone in a club say that. I have ridden with lads in smaller groups and there's a lot to be had from it. taking turns at the front etc, and sort of feeling part of a team.

Thanks Kipster. I never really ride in groups of more than three (and even that's rare) so apologies in advance for my inevitable breaking of all sorts of etiquette!

Out of interest, how do you find your interactions with car drivers goes on group rides as opposed to riding solo or in just a pair? The one experience I had of a club group ride I didn't enjoy - partly because the pace didn't suit me, but also partly because there seemed to be way more confrontations with motorists than I experience on my own. In my opinion at the time this was partly due to the attitude and behaviour of some in the group who rode in such a way to unnecessarily (almost deliberately!) hold up traffic on some sections of road - this then led to frustrated motorists and confrontation/aggression. I have read that many people feel much safer in a group on the road though so I assume my experience is not representative.
I can't like that enough ! I don't like group riding for the same reason -that and the continuous shouting car up car back pot hole speed hump gravel I know it has to be done but it does ruin the quiet a bit
So if I drop back it's because your shouting not me legs giving in.

I hope

I'm fairly quiet, I tend to point holes out unless I've seen it late, I will shout car down if I'm on the front and it's a narrow lane, but on most roads there is enough visibility so may just jesture with a hand. PS I don't intend to be on the front all the time, as the organiser I feel duty bound to check on back makers on the hills, i won't be using this as a excuse to have a rest even if it does happen after going into the red trying to keep up with the natural hill climbers.

Im sure the loudest shout out will be for the chip shop :bravo:

Look like I am taking the train first thing Saturday which aside from getting up early brings other pressures. Shorts or 3/4's, short sleeve or long sleeve, how many water bottles, what Size? How many energy bars ( nice chia peanut butter) I will not likely get my tubeless wheels on so I actually have to bring a spare tube and all the puncture repaid gubbins. It's all too much!

I was just looking at the forecast myself - 15-17 degrees and a 12mph wind which is neither hot or cold so having the same clothing dilemmas! Not so much of an issue on a shorter ride but knowing you want to be comfortable all day makes it tricky!

I did the IOW Randonnee one year and my uncle got 6 or 7 punctures (I lost count!). There was probably something on his rim or tyre puncturing the tube but we couldn't find it however hard we looked! Nightmare!
