Daughter passed her test the other day....well done Dad on the lessons 😁
Anyway now comes the real pain, what's the best way to insure her any ideas ? It's a 1.2 Polo that I have taught her in,its insured for myself and partner but company it's with won't touch a new driver ?
Any ideas advice would be appreciated

Congratulations, it's such a big deal for the kids to get through. We have our youngest insured with Ticker, black box and app, it's been good so far. We used marmalade with our eldest, it was a good deal but the black box was really sensitive and turned out to be a complete pain.

That's why we didn't want one with son no. 2 when he passed his test. The car was being used by both of us - including racing. We decided that trying to explain why the car was being driven slightly crazily at times when in a race, including the wrong way up one-way streets/etc., would be too hard so went with a non-black box policy instead.

Anecdotally, they do appear inconsistent.
Daughter 1 had one which was no trouble at all. It was so good, that when someone drove into the back of her and she immediately contacted the insurance company about the car being undriveable, the insurer's response was, "Yes we know you have been in a collision. Your car was stopped for X seconds and the other vehicle has driven into the back of you."
Daughter 2 on the other hand had a dreadful one which was linked to a variable premium based upon her driving style. Furthermore, an automated text would be sent if she was determined to be speeding. However, she was getting text messages about speeding when she was not. We even resorted to taking a time stamped video of the speedometer on some journeys, to see if the "speeding" text would be triggered. But the insurers refused to accept this at the time, even though it contradicted the black box.
We couldn't help feeling the insurers knew there was a problem, because at the end of the year, her final premium was based on no speeding infringements.
As soon as she could, she changed insurer and my daughter was quite happy to see the device loose in a disagreement with 14oz claw hammer.

I think it depends on the type of black box, the one with Ticker goes straight in to the engine management plug and takes data from the car whereas the Marmalade one was a blue tooth torque meter attached to the rear view mirror, that was way too sensitive, would give blacks marks against her for pulling off too aggressively, when actually all she was doing was pulling on to a main road from a standing start on an incline.

I did wonder about that.
IIRC my eldest's black box which worked well and was fitted below the driver's seat. Daughter 2's was simply a plastic box about the half the size of a box of matches, piggy backed onto an internal fuse and stuffed into a space by the fuse board.

Thanks...decided on leaving it a while as she's hardly going to be driving at the moment,Uni in the week and work at weekends.
Feel bad but it's a huge expense to only drive now and again...was costing me 56 quid a month on provisional to nearly 180 with a licence now she's passed.

If she doesn't need to drive, waiting is a good idea.

My daughters b/f passed his test, bought a car and got insurance. Two and a half years later my daughter bought the car from him and insured it with the same insurer at the same address. The ONLY difference between the two was that she had had a licence for 2.5 years (even though she'd never driven in that time). Insurance for her was 1/3 the cost of his.

Yea I was weighing up the pros and cons of it....me pay the 178 pounds a month for unlimited lifts to and from the pub and being able to sit and criticize my daughter about her choice of radio stations and driving habits was tempting.
It's tough being a parent....😁

You could always trade it in and get a Fiat 500 ;-) Reduces it to around the £116 a month mark.

She can still get temporary short-term insurance, although that can be expensive.

Even though I now have two kids with cars, the lifts me and the wife get have been few and far between! They are always doing something. However things have changed for the better recently as my eldest is now covered on my company car insurance and she's seems a bit more amenable.

Be using your fuel, that's why.
