Half a mill building five bed detached, 80k contents, just under 400 sovs the lot. Mine you, modern building with the latest smoke detection stuff, approved and monitored alarm, not some sheety Verisure of Simplisafe rubbish, sold secure locks all round, so the risk is likely minimised.

Mine isn't far off yours, but only 48k contents. Don't have a monitored alarm though. Cheapest I can get is £680. Must be a Surrey thing.

I think they do it in bandings, but could be wrong.

Including demolition, clearing the site, project management for that individual build, legal and planning, and then the build itself, the rebuild cost of a new house isn't far of the cost of the market price of a new-build.

It's a new build, market value about £575k, so half a mill isn't far off the mark.

I have no idea how they work out the premiums.

Our new build insurance is 'up to £1000000' , so we are easily covered, yet our RICS calculation (as previously posted) is a far lower value. How that all translates into annual premium cost is a mystery to me. And tbh, it can stay that way as long as the product does the job if needed.

I have many items, mainly wifes jewelry, a couple of my watches and basses, valued above £2000 and itemised on the policy, and that added a good whack.

Hastings direct were cheapest when mine passed. Def add you and partner too (so long as you have a good record) as that's cheaper. Also, it's quite a bit cheaper if she owns the car rather than you or somebody else.

@DCLane
Marmalade quote.
I did use these once for a month or two for provisional insurance.

@Adam4868 - having her on their records probably helped. I found the same thing with son no. 2 where the company he'd had learner insurance with gave us a much lower quote.

It'll go down after a year or two as long as she's careful.

When my daughter passed 4 months ago we had the car (Fiat 500 hybrid) insured with Admiral and they were/are happy to insure her after she had passed her test. They were less happy with being competitive once I told them that I had badly damaged the Company car back in April which was deemed to be my fault even though a bus with plenty of time to stop went into the back of me.

Anyway, searching on compare the meerkat, I found the best deal was to insure her as the main driver with me and my wife as named drivers. Hastings were the most competitive with their quote of £1254 which is a policy which requires a little box and an app to be running that reports whether the driving is good or bad.

Same here (keyboard, bike and a painting rather than basses) but it's still a bigger whack than your whack!
