Surely if the company need him to be able to drive for business, and won't/can't provide a pool car, then they need to pay the additional insurance costs. Else, don't drve for business purposes.

Had the same debate when I was working, amazing how quickly they managed to let me use the pool car.

Age thing. They had insured all the cars via the same policy, so the pool Corsa was on the same policy as the two bosses £100k cars, so effectively he 'could' drive them, but had to be 25. He was 23. Unfortunately, they weren't the best company to work for and they got stung for 45p per mile. Hammered the car - think it ended up clocking 20k miles in 12 months. It's back to shopping trip duties currently, so mileage will only be a few k.

Oh, and dropping in all the license numbers reduced the quote by a whopping £20.

I'll reiterate - if they don't provide the transport, don't drive for business - simple.

I let the cars renew. Tried to look for something cheaper but it was down to a few £ difference and they wanted the exact cost of the accident I had when the steering linkage broke. I knew what it cost me but no idea what the cost re the othet vehicle was.

Insurance renewal invitation has come through. Dropped by £500, so it's now a smidge under a grand for the 'run about'. Saves me about £45 a month now daughter has 12 months on a full license. Phew.

Mine came through as well. £1300 for the year plus £496 for home insurance (building and contents) via admiral. Technically it's only an increase of £100 on last years premium but as she didn't pass her test until June, it wasn't really a full years premium.

What have you got, and mansion? That's more than double mine for a 5 bed detached.

Yes, it seems very high to me as well (4 bed detached) but after comparing the market it's reasonably cheap. £425k buildings plus £48K contents including 3 named items and cover for valuables outside the home. Best quote is £786

However, given that Admiral have just added £400 as I was involved in a fault RTA earlier in the year. Now I can get a quote from Hastings that is £100 cheaper than the original renewal, with my daughter as lead driver and us as additionals, But then my contents will be £280 more expensive.

Half a mill building five bed detached, 80k contents, just under 400 sovs the lot. Mine you, modern building with the latest smoke detection stuff, approved and monitored alarm, not some sheety Verisure of Simplisafe rubbish, sold secure locks all round, so the risk is likely minimised.

...plus the thought of what you'd do to anyone violating your property!

That's a lot of building cost!

Our building cost is £380000 for a 3 bed detached bungalow with selling price of £600-£650000.

Swiftcover (part of AXA) £370ish - £380000 building cost. £60000 contents, 2 high value (+£2500) named jewellery items, plus a cash amount I have forgotten the value of, and one lovely trek!

I think they do it in bandings, but could be wrong.

Including demolition, clearing the site, project management for that individual build, legal and planning, and then the build itself, the rebuild cost of a new house isn't far of the cost of the market price of a new-build.

It's a new build, market value about £575k, so half a mill isn't far off the mark.
