Not so much controversial, as untrue. But it might be true that women are catching men up in terms of driving aggression.

In my experiences some young girls drive just as aggressively as some young lads. A lot of my most recent bad/aggressive overtakes have been done by young girls. I even had two young girls drive up along side on a bridge with a 90 degree turn at the end of it, window open about to hurl abuse or something else but a very quick glare from me made them think twice; these girls could have been no more than 20!

Not sure on the facts of the real world but on Twitter the retweets by #Cyclehatred seem to reflect that young females are the silliest in that seem to be happy to broadcast their hatred of cyclists. Of course it could be selective retweeting but the higher % that were young and female was quite a shock when I first followed him.

Cracking a solo.
This from Sky News

"She came on to my side of the road. I took the wing mirror off and I went flying off my bike into a hedge," he told BBC Norfolk.
"She hit me hard, really hard. I am lucky to be alive but I managed to get out of the hedge and stand up.

This from road.cc

"I was sticking to the left as the corner was blind. A car came round in the opposite direction going much too quickly to make the corner safely. It missed the rider in front of me but hit me, my right leg caught the front right wing. I was thrown up onto the bonnet, I hit the side of windsrceen and the wing mirror. I bounced back off the car and went through a hedge for about 20 metres. I managed to keep control of the bike; the back brake had locked on but I managed to rejoin the road and stop in the middle of it"

Or texting.

 A school friend of my son had an accident while texting because as a direct consequence she failed to see or react to the car that pulled out directly in front of her from a side junction while driving down the inside lane of an otherwise empty dual carriageway... it's debatable whether a capable and observant driver would have been able to avoid hitting the emerging car but, because she was texting, they assessed the cause of the accident to be wholly her fault. The driver of the car she hit died before the case got to court, as a result of injuries caused by the accident. She was charged with causing death by dangerous driving to which she pleaded guilty. She was sentenced to 4 years in prison... Had the injured person contributed to the accident? ...almost certainly, but the lack of control and the total lack of concentration meant the car was a 60mph battering ram.

Using a mobile while driving should be punished as severely as drunk driving not as it often is at present the equivalent of a slapped wrist [when the consequences don't result in injury or damage]

As for using a car as a weapon, words fail me.

Did I say that?

Close enough.

You may not read it that way, but if someone says that in thier experience something is true, then to call it untrue, you are calling them a liar.

Your experience may well be different, in which case it is fair to say so, but this does not in any way negate the experience of someone else.

Nonsense. I'm not talking about experience - I'm talking about facts. He's not a liar - he's just wrong. I thought perhaps, with it being the 21st century 'n' all, we could move on from anecdotal "evidence" about women drivers.

The most high profile case of texting was Lord Ahmed, in which the incident also ended up with someone being killed. In his case though there seemed to be a questionably generous interpretation of the phone and the accident and he got released from prison after a few days. Someone I was on a course with had this type of accident of someone pulling out at a very slow speed straight into 60mph traffic but all parties survived as he crashed his vehicle into the hard shoulder and skillfully clipped two other vehicles at the right angle.
