Can I just say, I have never had a thread I originated on CC go to 16 pages before.
Don't go getting big-headed about it :whistle::biggrin:

I think motorists have this defensive mentality from rising costs which make them feel insecure as motorists. They are victims of rising costs but use this issue as a defensive measure against anyone stepping on their roads.

but, but, but. I'm a motorist too as are most on here. I appreciate my view is probably not mainstream amongst those holding a set of car keys in that I accept my car is a luxury item not an essential right and will be taxed and costed accordingly.

I ride a bike more often and by choice but I'm still a motorist too. If I had been forced to relocate to work 40 miles from home instead of 7 without any semblence of viable PT routes ( v nearly happened) I would be doing 15K more commuting and all by car, be a weekend rider at best but still not any more of a 'motorist' than I am now or less of a 'cyclist' than when I was when I was 10 years old and started riding 3 miles daily to/from school.

Please stop hanging labels on people based on a perceived transport preference. I'm no more insecure or victimised that every time I fill my car up it costs more, than I am that my utility bills and council tax have gone up again and every time I set foot in Tesco, I come out with less money than last week.

I received a CV from a 23 year old architectural graduate and thought I'd look to see if he had a Facebook page. His CV contained none of the hobbies and interests which were evident in his photos and pages... and as for his comments and attitude. I should imagine LG were similarly unaware of the dark side.

It's an difficult balance though isn't it.

After the Kent young police commissioner fiasco and this, I suspect potential employers may well start looking closely at the online world of their applicants.

Photos of speedometers at 95mph and racist tweets from someone being employed as a police commissioner are pretty damning.

Generally things will be less clear cut - I'm sure we've all made some pretty silly posts on the internet and, of course, in general they are there for ever if you look hard enough

A generation of Americans may have to change their name by deed poll to cover up what they've said online.

Just after we got married [so we would have been 23/24], Mrs A_T took a photo of our old Escort estate's speedometer as it clicked over to [1]00000 passing Leicester Forest East Services doing 60mph flat out... those were the days!

She certainly isn't doing herself any favours by being interviewed. Call me old fashioned, but amongst all the "poor little me" faux-contrite knackers, I wanted to scream at her to stop f*cking chewing gum.

And as a practitioner I see an all too common trait of initial denial until hit with irrefutable evidence, followed by minimising and deflection. So, I did nothing wrong, followed by, well OK, he knocked my mirror, followed by and anyway, everybody does silly stuff, not just me.
