Not enough lol!

Worknights it can be as little as 4 hours, I'm an abosolute fiend for staying up too late.

Yeah, I get that, if I go to bed before 1am (rare) I feel like I've wasted the evening.

7hrs would be nice!.

I had a week recently of 2hrs tops a night, not for lack of going to bed.

It's terrible not having a good night's sleep, very hard to concentrate.

Then you get into the vicious circle of worrying about actually going to sleep at all!.

I very often see 3am, now I have an hour or more of browsing Internet before trying to get back off to sleep.

Sleeping like a log is a valuable skill plenty would envy.

On shifts I get around 5-6hrs per night and can function pretty well off this although I have been on a shift pattern for around 15yrs so my body has got used to it by now. For the last couple of months I have switched to a 9-5 Mon to Fri and as a result I am regularly getting 7hrs although I wouldn't say I feel any better for it.

I went away a couple of years ago with around 100 work colleagues and we were all working the same shifts whilst staying in a hotel. I would say that 80% of them were getting under 6hrs sleep per night. I think as an adult if you are able to sleep for 8hrs you are probably the exception rather than the norm.

Oh dear....

Thats two nights on the trot I've fallen asleep on the Sofa and woken up at dawn to crawl into my pit for a hours lie down in the bed. I'm sure this isn't normal lol.

What is normal?! I had a mate who worked full time, he used to fall asleep on his sofa and wake up with his alarm in the morning. He had a bedroom upstairs but never used it. After a while he'd even go upstairs to the toilet in the night, passing his bedroom, and go back down to sleep on the sofa

I remember as a child a bloke on our street who wore a string vest with nothing over it all year round come rain or shine! He was rumoured to sleep in either his armchair or in his always parked at his front door caravan, but never in his matrimonial bed. 🤔

To be fair its only work nights I get annoyed when this happens, when I'm not working I'll happily sleep where I fall. 🛌

A long time ago, I saw a documentary about people who live quite happily on very, very little sleep. One of the people interviewed was asked what he thought about those who wanted seven or eight hours a night.
".....well, they're wasting their lives, aren't they?..."
I suppose he had a point.

I

Maggie Thatcher had a similar view and was famous for only sleeping 4 hours a night.

But, recent research has identified a link between insufficient sleep (over many years) and increased risk of cancers. The cells are not getting time to repair themselves and it leads to cellular changes I.e. cancers.

And, if you’re active in strenuous sports, it reduces your ability to recover before the next session.

Edit: also many progressive workplaces have comfy sofas and pods where staff can power nap. It really works. If you use your head for work, it’s like rebooting one’s computer.
