The only 'posh' cup I have is this cup and saucer from the coronation of King George the 6th in May 1937, which I don't use to save it from breakage. All the rest of my cups and mugs are the usual ones you'd see in anyone's cupboard. 🧐

The other thing about giving up sugar in drinks is that can REALLY taste it when someone accidentally adds it. Even if your cup gets stirred with a spoon from a sweetened cup - bleaugh!!!!

Although weirdly I still have a sweet tooth for cakes and even drinks in the right circumstances.

None in normal tea or coffee, but I make an exception for a proper espresso which should be black strong and sweet. ☕

One of the uncles of my late ex. always put brown sugar in his tea. When I first saw this I asked why.
He'd been in the Army in the Far East during WW2 and at the time, brown sugar was all that was available. Thus by the time he'd been demobbed, he was so used to the taste of brown sugar in his tea, he stuck with it.
As they never have white sugar in the house, I got into the same habit, so even now, forty plus years later, on the very rare occasion I have sugar in my tea, it's always brown and I think it gives a less harsh taste.

A thick slice of buttered spread with a few spoonfuls of sugar spread on top, and then a little tea poured on top of it was quite a common thing to do years ago.

A salt sandwich is a common staple for bachelors that haven't been shopping.
