They say never to discuss politics or religion...Well, this must be up there with them on the list of touchy subjects!

ok , reading through all the posts its come down to this - as I see it.
Reasons for wearing a helmet
A) You believe a helmet will mitagate an injury. - won,t necesserily save your life but it might help
B) the roads are unsafe enough to regard it as a real risk
C) It seams a common sense solution to personel protection
D) its socially irresponsible to do something you regard as risky and not try and reduce the risk.
E) a helmet looks better than a bald head and a sweat band.-helmets look the part
F) The patrion Saint of Cycling , Saint Wiggins said we must , the evil saint of cycling ex-saint armstrong said - take the pills you won't feel a thing. -

Reasons for not wearing a helmet
1) Don,t believe helmets are effective enough to warrant thier use
2) Don,t look cool, like the feeling of the wind through my silky flowing locks - or something similar
3) don't want to , can't make me , knob off big nose.
4)Don,t think the risk is worth it. - it won,t happen to me. the odds say so.
5)have a convincing excuse (or reason not to), studies prove, long term trends, %, ect ad infintum
6) when your time is up , your time up . - helmet, flak jacket, armoued underwear , ain't going to save you from the reaper.

reasons for not reading this post
- can,t read Urdu, - it is in urdu isn't it? - you call that english ? Paah !
He is so stupid.
Its not from Mr Angry again is it?
He is SO STUPID.

Even simpler, someone claims that cyclists are selfish and stupid, expecting someone to pay for their disability and clear up the mess, yet still hasn't explained why a pedestrian isn't selfish and stupid

They also haven't explained why pedestrians and car driver's head injuries are less painful or traumatic and don't need to be prevented...

and why do people look at you funny if you wear the helmet in the office? After all you are at a similar risk to when you are cycling.
The risk walking round an office is the same as riding a bike?

I think we all agree on here that improving cycling safety is paramount and educating drivers, cyclists, improving infrastructure etc. etc. is going to be a benefit to safety. If walking around the office poses the same risks then surely the improvement in safety in cycling should be extended to offices?

So if you wish to improve safety aspects of cycling and are willing to continually note this is the same as walking in an office then it goes without saying you wish to promote that to.

I dont think the risks are the same BTW and I can only see bringing it up is nothing more than a red herring to ridicule the argument for helmets.

you do have a point, - I,m being far to narrow minded about cyclists, hell I should be hateing everyboby !!. - we are all irresponsible ect ect.

of course car drivers surround themselves with safety devices - then drive like suicidal maniacs

pedestrians - well its well known they are justs an accident on two legs, as pedestrians we have all walked into lamp posts whilst looking behind you at an attractive pair of legs,
or fallen off the pavement, or tripped over an ant.
I was walking oneday and I stopped - I had forgotten which leg to put forward next, I was stuck there for days.

ok - fair point

I'm aware of 2 cases of people dying (both of them under 30) after tripping up & hitting their head on a desk in the last 5 years! I've seen H&S paperwork for several head injuries in offices after getting tripped up by something in the last 18 months. There's an on-going case where someone was hospitalised with head & neck injuries after an empty box file was knocked off a high shelf onto their head. Then there's all the stuff like bumps & bruises from people stepping back off a kick stool after forgetting they were standing on one, walking into closing/closed doors, falling over on wet tolet floors, etc.

EDIT: mentioned the same 2 cases twice
