I'm also having a pre-gym tea. Nothing too heavy mind, just a spud pie and mushy peas and a few choccy biscuits.

I'm also going to wear a sweat/wrist band for that 'athletic look'. The only trouble is,it's a Nike one and all my other stuff is Adidas. Will i look silly i wonder?

I'm not very happy! I went for my induction course at the council run gym. I had to fill a form in which asked about my health and stuff. When they saw the operations i'd had done they told me i couldn't join until i'd been physically assessed ffs! Not only that but they said the same applies for anyone 55 or over. They told me someone will phone me back and book an examination for me,which could take a week or so. I think i might join the private one up the road. Health and safety gone mad!!

That's standard. Expect the same from the privately owned one.

In my experience it isn't standard to need a medical over 55. It would be age descrimination surely. If they tried that on me they wouldn't see any of my money.

Probably something to do with their liability insurance?

That's the way i felt at the time. That's why my first thought was stuff 'em and go to the private gym instead. I'll do the assessment though as i'd like to start swimming again and the private gym doesn't have a pool. Although i could pay £20 a month at the private gym (£27.50 at the council one) and get in at the council pool for £2 a time due to me being able to use a reduced payment card.
I did feel a bit of age discrimination though when i wrote my age down on the form. So if i was half my age and hadn't had any hospital stays yet was clinically obese then according to them i wouldn't need a physical assessment.

I empathise with this bloke .

He rants about gym users parking as close to the gym as possible. Why he asks, are they so lazy when they drive to somewhere where they're supposed to be burning off fat etc? I've noticed the 'steroid heads' who use the private gym up the road from where i live. The slimmer users tend to walk there, but the 'muscle men' arrive in cars, usually those penis extension flat back wagon/Chelsea tractor types with names on the side like 'Animal' or 'Rhino' and oh so macho chrome bars and stuff. Are they sooo muscle bound that they can hardly walk?

On the subject of discrimination, the private gym up the road charges females £10 a month while men have to pay £20 a month. I asked someone who's a member there why this is so. He told me it's to get the 'eye candy' in for the men to ogle over while they're working out.:stop:
