There's one near to where i used to live. It has a massive tractor tyre outside. This must be a sign that wimps and poseurs aren't welcome?
I went in one day. They have those atlas balls in there. I could just about move one (about 2 inches) by pushing it with my foot.

Well spotted. It's a kind of sword in the stone for iron junkies.

I did join a proper weightlifting gym when I moved to the NW, it was rough, smelly and very cold in winter but it was only £1.75 a session.

I found it beneficial for my all-round strength and muscle tone and I did notice that my clothes hung better on me. I was getting beyond just nodding terms with a rather fit woman but it all went wrong when she was near me heaving away on something and she farted loudly and malodorously.

No. I'm not built like a tank, I don't wear spray tan, I don't post stupid motivational quotes on Instagram and nor do I chat up every girl I meet.

What has that got to do with going to a gym, I take it you have never you have never been in one.

Ask yourself this simple question, are all cyclist the same?

I'm only joking, it's just the stereotype of a gym-goer.

A very poor one that puts many people off joining a gym.

I hate gyms. I just can't disengage my brain to the mundane boredom of it. I recently tried swimming and found it the same. I cancelled my membership of the swimming and bought a new Concept 2 rowing machine on interest free credit. This is the machine I liked the best in the gym. Its also the best all round exerciser for all body parts, and low impact, so I read. At least I'm getting something for my money (similar monthly outlay to swimming, per month), if I get fed up of it, they still bring good money used. They also last forever, it easily splits in-two for storage.

I'm sure numerous, cheaper machines are available, that do a similar thing, if on a budget.

I thought they were not good for dodgy knees, I could be wrong as it came from the internet.

I enjoy the Concept as well, even more so when side by side racing.

I believe that they are, well I hope so, as I've got a pretty dodgy one, two operations etc. That's why I bought one, I read it on the internet. I hope my internet is true, and yours is wrong, or else it might be up for sale real soon...

Never "joined" a gym, but I did enrol in a circuit training course one winter. Lasted about two weeks when I broke my ancle playing basket ball.

So much for "keep fit"

Cycling alone never gave me a total overall fitness that cycling, swimming and gym session does.
