Unless you are going to do the organised classes, then there is nothing you can do at a gym that you can't do at home.
You already have a bike, a static bike as well. Do you have stairs? then you can run up and down them as a cardio vascular/leg muscle exercises.
Use carrier bags with tins or bags of groceries as weights for arm/chest exercises.
With a little imagination there is much you can do at home without paying out a lot of money in membership fees.

I use a gym for two 90 minute sessions a week, I do not find them boring nor full of posers. The times I go it is mainly retired folk, if I want quiet I put my ear plugs in.

It's interesting to note that gyms have many more members than actually attend. I belonged to one in the UK for a while, they boasted a membership of about a thousand but you'd only see about ten people in there regularly.
You simply have got to say you belong to a gym these days.

I use to be a member many years ago, but the cost each year was going up and up, so I bought a bike, I did miss it at first as I use to go 3-4 times a week, but the exercise I got from the bike, walking and kayaking was all I really needed.
I am looking to go back swimming soon only one day a week for the winter period.

Not a chance, unless I'm paid to say it.

I'm in one of the new budget style gyms, £129.00 a year for a large free weights area, never had to queue for a bench, and pliates classes.

It's worth it for me.

I've used gyms in the past but I think it was just me wanting to be a pervert..

And you can never catch that pretty girl in front of you when on a running machine..waste of money..

Tho the swimming pool and sauna were excellent

I'm a member of a gym and have been for about 4 years now. I moved to a new one just over a year ago and I totally love it. It costs £14.99 a month and that is to use the gym at any time of the day and all classes. It has lots of equipment, a massive free weights area and a new assault rig (which looks scary!) I only do classes as they really motivate me to work extra hard and it is more sociable. I do body pump, HIIT, circuits, LBT, spinning and ultimate endurance- on average about 6-8 classes per week.
I love going to the gym and because I'm paying for it I turn up every week!

No need for me to go to a gym when I have a bike and gorgeous countryside on my doorstep, explorable with a two year old in the trailer.

I do a physical job though which helps too.

As someone who is bi I much prefer the slim look rather than muscles but horses for courses.

I'm a member of the University sports centre. It's the best sports facility in Cambridge, especailly weights, and as a result all the meat heads go there. They have biceps bigger than my thighs! I'm no longer a gym member as I wasn't using it.

For the last year or so I've been a class only member- £30 per month for unlimited classes. At present I do spin and circuits on a Monday and Metcon on a Wednesday. I've been giving Friday a rest, but that would be circuits and yoga. It's a good mix of cardio and strength, the fitness instructors are a great bunch and the regulars have a laugh and are very supportive. I find it essential in the winter to keep my mood on an even keel.

There are quite a few 70+ year old in the gym I use.

Guy I was just talking to is an expert on gyms and hates them, the fact that he has never experienced one seems odd.

I am another gym member - 3 to 4 times a week. I use the Watt Bike (too much), but also the treadmill. Both of these on Zwift. I also use the rowing machine and then a variety of weights machines. The classes are on at bad times for me, so I tend not to use them, although I did used to sneak out of work for Pilates after my back operation. I have thought about trying to replicate the equipment at home to supplement my Turbo, but the cost would be quite a lot, but worse I think I would not use it as much as a gym. I have a routine that works, I am worried I might stop if I change it.

Not a member. Been contemplating getting a membership coz the only part of my body that gets a routine workout are legs (due to Cycling of course).

Not sure if I'll ever get round to it.

Don't you use your lungs and heart? Maybe you need to push a bit harder ;)
