Is coming second in a Grand Tour REALLY not worth fighting for? Is it not better than NOTHING????

I get that first is clearly preferable (!) but for those who haven't won a lot (or for a while), SURELY second on a grand tour is worth fighting for?

Basically, it's almost worthless. 2nd place in a 1-day race (especially National/World champs and monuments), or 2nd in GC - both worth a lot.
2nd on the stage - nah, very low value.

Look at this way. You're in some bizarre casino, you've won a fiver; they offer you a new game for your fiver, where you might win 1,000 pounds, in fact there's a 10% chance you'll win. You'd take those odds, wouldn't you?
Of course when you lose, some will say "You threw away that fiver!!!"

Most of the stuff is available elsewhere, but it would be nice to have it all on one site.

And it would be nice to be able to see all of the rankings without having to repeatedly scroll down, find the button, and press "load more" to be shown them 5 at a time. A more stupid user-hostile site is hard to imagine.

On letour.fr you go click-click and there are all the rankings. Click-click-click withdrawals. Easy.

Thanks, this is really helpful. I guess I was comparing it to the glory of a classics podium and that was the mistake I was making!

It's funny because I used to get really frustrated at riders going for Top10 in the 1-days riding defensively. Then someone explained to me that for many, 9th in the World Champs (say) is a Big Thing on your palmares! Whereas I was thinking "why on earth don't they try to WIN the thing!!! Don't just sit on, the likely winner is 30 seconds down the road, work together guys! Aaaargh!!!!!

(Does 2nd on a GT stage even get to stand on a podium?)
