Having looked at the Milepost Society's website, as mentioned by @Dogtrousers , their map on Google Earth gives a reference number for each milepost. The reference number includes the marked distance to the principal destination. There's quite a few mileposts on the roads radiating out of London but not many with 27 in the reference. Clicking the reference number gives a link to a Geograph photo. I started in the North West and went all the way round anti clockwise before I found it, but it only took about 10 mins.

It looks like the milepost had a near miss a few years ago.

The yellow backed chevron has been replaced in the latest streetview. It no longer has the backing as per @Ming the Merciless 's photo.

Only just found this thread. I should have recognised Ming's milepost, as it's only a few miles up the road. Our club hilly starts just around the corner and then comes towards the camera. Given @Marchrider's comment, looks like I've missed my big chance and we're now onto roads I've never ridden :rolleyes:
