We need more clues, if the NTR is a hard to guess picture.

I've been looking in the Cambridgeshire almost Essex area with little joy... but thinking about it... do they have hills like that down there?

The thing is, I look at a picture and its utterly impossible, just a road and some hedges. Then someone immediately turns up and says "I recognised the style of that dry stone walling and the presence of those rare wildflowers immediately"

Ok, I've hinted it's in Wales. This river reaches the sea at a place that bears its name (and is well known). That should narrow the search a bit.

I was about to descend into (and climb out of) a valley containing a river and a railway.

After that I arrived in a market town. I'm Too Shy to say how long my ride was, but it certainly wasn't 500 Miles.

Its inside an AONB but not deep inside. I passed the stone marker of the boundary about 7km / 4mi earlier in my ride.
The road is facing North.

Well it sounds like you have both Kajagoogoo and Proclaimers references in there.

The market town in question is Chipping Norton, home of the music studio where those two 1980s songs were recorded.
