There is a very big clue in the picture which should make this road easy to find.

Oops, I had forgotten this - well done!

The 'big clue' was the very distinctive shape of Pendle Hill, ahead left.

Ah. I had a lucky click in the somewhere in Colin's neck of the woods, although I was looking for that shape in the background, but didnt know what it was. Maybe if you had drawn some dead witches on it.....

You did indeed! Right over a cattle grid at the foot of that descent, and then immediately on to a vicious little twisting singletrack climb next to a wood.

The ride was in May and the critter didn't live long, which should give you a clue. (To NTC, not NTR). I suspect it died of shame having failed to fly faster than I can ride.

The thing behind the fence was there when the locals were known for their arbitrary method of dispensing justice.

so i reckon its i the borders somewhere, on an A road on the outskirts of a town (hence the pavement).

However Celine's clues are nearly always very cryptic, two or three times removed from location name and require a degree in local history to solve!
