He's gleaning inspiration from a DVD of Sir Larry in Henry V, as we speak!

I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit; and, upon this charge
Cry 'God for Simon! England and Saint Claud!
actually I'm going to do it Sir Coxone stylee, with Chaucerian side-riffs. Just wait for the bit where I lead the assembled multitude in prayers....

I'd thought it was 400, but there was some double-counting. About 393.

Yes, me! I'll probably be catching the 20:10-ish train from Moor Street to Marylebone. Chiltern are much less hassle than Virgin, who insist on bike reservations. Chiltern don't, so I can be much more flexible with my plans.
Excellent, that's the one i was going to get, i'll be on at Solihull at 20:25 or Stourbridge if i work from home. Not sure about getting back though.

see you there.

The ride always needs quality Al. The Martletts website says bookings are now closed, but I'm sure if you kiss Simon's ring....

Ruddy weight weenies, as if the weight of guards and a rack make a noticeable difference to a man of my calibre avoirdupois:whistle:

I see it moans on about racks, mudguards, locks, and even cake.:wacko:

A good pannier full of spares and tools is what you need.

You'll have to bring your own however, since I won't be there, I can't be arsed with filling in webpages of information, and by the sounds of it I've avoided something which challenges the Boris Bikes website for usability!

I may however turn up to the start with a camera and take some photos, since it just means delaying my journey home a bit, and I pretty much follow the rides route for my commute anyway.

Shout loud enough, and you may be roped in to help with signing people in.

you get to Marshal. See User10571 at the start for the tin star.

We will have two mechanics from Brixton Cycles in the back-up van, with tools in abundance.

Here for rides.
I find it slightly perverse that I am inordinately excited at the prospect of watching dawn arrive from the static vantage point of the junction of Slugwash Lane and the A272. This perturbation may be linked to the fact that I've not ridden my, or any, bike in anger, or, indeed, in any other sort of mood, since late July. Doctor's orders and all that; leading to an inactivity summer holiday, during which I seriously contempleted spending €50 on a Portuguese BSO before SWMBO described in blood curdling detail precisely what she would do to me if she caught me on a bike before 1st September.

But now my "sick note" has expired. I am fat and unfit, but otherwise well, and I am free to wend my whimsical way across hill and down lane and I'll be [formby]"leanin' a signpost on a corner of a street until a certain little night ride comes by. Oh me, oh my, until a certain little night ride comes by" [/formby]

See you later.....

Nothing perverse about that. I'm looking forward to Friday night and I'm not even going to Brighton, in fact I won't even be on my bike.

Just the sight of 400 riders leaving en-mass from London at midnight is enough to put a smile on my face
