The journey is on the extended distance. If I were to do that journey I would anticipate 3 stops of around 35-45 mins per stop assuming full charge upon leaving with a scheduled stop of around 220-250 miles.

However I would not drive that far on each leg. 150-175 is plenty for me. That's around 3 hours non stop.

If there was a overnight, better still, destination charger would give me a full charge overnight, reducing one on the road stops.

Outside Tesla's network it can be patchy performance for getting chargers.

Factor in I've only done one journey of this distance and more in over a year. Most of my journeys are around 250-400 miles which is normal only one supercharger stop

Same here. In the first year of ownership I've only done one trip of more than 250 miles. 99.9% of my journeys are less than 100 miles each way. 95% of my journeys are less than 25 miles each way.

I don't have a Porsche!
Okaaaay but you're the one that recommended Porsche chargers, only weeks after you'd declared them worst ever. Perhaps you could explain your change of mind?

You seem to very keen to rubbish the video, but one takeaway is that charging infrastructure at motorway services could be improved.
It's a fairly simply message. Do you not agree things could be better?
ie, more of them, more reliable, easier to use, and better value for money. Sounds pretty good to me. Feel free to disagree.

Bear in mind that all cars have to be BEV in the near future, a 28-fold increase from current numbers
Better battery tech, and massively more chargers will be needed.

I don’t read here that anyone says the charging network is acceptable - it’s poor but improving, slowly but I’m sure it will start to be exponential growth as investors see the real value in the charger network and let’s not forget all of the fuel companies that will need to move their investment away from traditional fuel into charging.

It won’t happen overnight and we would be naive to think otherwise.

We have 12 years before the last ICE car is sold so we are looking at a couple of decades before most cars will be electric. Time for a lot of things to change. For the positive.

Good point. If you own a Porsche you get a nice little card to wave at them and they are really easy to use. If you don't own a Porsche they are a bit of a PITA.
Consistency is my watchword :-)

If you can get them to work - they look great, and getting them to work is heavily biased towards Porsche owners (somewhat unsurprisingly).

I totally agree with that. I just don't see the point of the video which was set up so he could moan about how rubbish his Porsche is. Maybe he should have gone for a Tesla S instead of an ICE conversion?

Nope - again - totally agree. There are some really shoddy services out there.

Also agreed. The BP Pulse Megahub at the NEC is a shining example of how to do it well. And of course every Tesla charging hub - you seldom find just two chargers.

The MacMaster has just put up another YouTube vid about his Porsche..
At the end he's gone through all the figures of how much it's depreciated.
If it's to be believed the figures are eye watering

Agree re deprecation (not seen the video though). There’s a massive ‘correction‘ going on with cars at the moment - not just EV.

There is depreciation in the car market now that the makers are struggling to move stock especially as EV stock is now less attractive as we all have five more years to move into that world. Tesla reducing their prices and a lot more cars coming off lease making them more accessible.

When you look at a Porsche Taycan as one example, it is not an everyday car and there was a guy on YT who bought a second hand one with 1,300 miles from Porsche for £41,000 less than new *that’s more than a lot of cars full price!) - He still paid £111k - that’s not everyday territory !

Yep big corrections coming up on used prices , we were nearly circa £30k saved on the new price for ours, it’s only 6 months old ! However it’s going to drop like a stone I’m guessing over the next 3yrs . I’m planning on keeping this EV a while , so not too bothered about it .

Probably charging near full and I imagine to a lower depth kills it. Will happen to near any EV I bet. 13a plug charging is going to be by far the safest, especially in the cold.
A 7kw charger will also be fine. This is an extreme case. My last diesel car I kept for 11 years and it hadn't done the mileage on that Tesla. Equally, it's hard to tell whether this example is a one off or not.

Not for anyone who has a full time job is as a driver, so possibly extreme to call it extreme.
Anyway, Tesla never tells so we will almost certainly never know exactly why.

This guy did 120,000 miles in a year. That's 328 miles per day. So it certainly wouldn't happen in the UK. Secondly, if he's doing 328 miles per day, he is massively overcharging the car for no good reason. He has a morning range of 250 miles from his home slow charger. He needs one fast charge per day of about 40% tops.

Best to avoid ex taxi Tesla's! 🤣🤣
