As @CXRAndy said, he's not interested in working away. Plenty of work locally if he wants it. He's semi retired from building work, so only taking on local jobs.

So semi retired and wasting a shed load of money on an electric van, when a diesel would have been far more suitable, cheaper and easier to sell on when full retirement looms, or it’s just a tax fiddle

Seems someone had a happy Christmas.

He has a Diesel van. He's selling it. He's spent 8k on an electric van because he likes electric and it meets his needs. He also has a Tesla 3 Performance, an electric motorbike, and electric bicycle and a Nissan Leaf for his partner.

I bet that's a belter, first thing that goes wrong and it's scrap, unlike the diesel, engine goes bang, either scrap it or fit another from the scrapyard, I don't think throwing cement mixers, bags of aggregate etc into a decent van makes sense, which is why most would get a cheaper diesel & wreck it doing just that, then dump it & get another, as for Tesla, I wouldn't give Elon Musk a rancid cow pat, let alone money.

Sounds like he has set himself up well in the electric vehicle world I think that the van will suit his needs well as he’s not doing long distances and no doubt he is busy to the point of turning jobs away. A good local tradesman is never out of work.

@DRM. I think you just need to accept his wants and needs are different to yours.

You carry on with your diesel vehicles because that works for you and your needs but don’t apply your judgement on others who have given their decision carefully thought and consideration.

Accept we all have different requirements, circumstances and priorities.

Judging by what he cleared out of the old van, he mostly keeps tools and useful supplies. As far as I'm aware most builders get things like aggregate delivered. He's very happy with it, so clearly it meets his needs.

He's as busy as he wants to be and is at a point in life where he chooses the jobs he wants to do.

My builder who is retired now, well into his 70s. He worked within a 3 mile radius for most of his life, builder by profession from a teenager, never advertised, always had a years worth of work in front of him. He built my 4 properties and countless others builds for others, as well as the endless little jobs that fill in the week. He worked 6 days a week 8am-4pm.

Only if you're sh!t, do you need to travel further away so your crap reputation isn't known.

I guess, in part it depends how densely populated your area is. Where I am, there are maybe 500-700 houses within a 5 mile radius, and then you need to travel about 12 miles more to get any significant numbers. I doubt there would be enough demand from the immediate area to keep somebody fully employed.

I recently had new windows fitted, and the closest fitters were 15 miles, and good ones further than that. So, as with most things, we can't make assumptions about individual circumstances.

Everything is very black & white to Andy.

Everyone should drive electric & Tesla is the answer to tricky questions; nobody should have needs that EVs cannot do, otherwise they are “special”, in a faintly passive-aggressive insulting way, as I discovered as a recipient of his words 🙄

What a utopian world he lives in 🤷‍♂️

Meanwhile, in the real world, things move on in their chaotic way….

You couldn't pay me enough to want to drive a Tesla, unless or until Musk has nothing to do with them.

You and me both, why anyone wants to give money to this ridiculous man baby is beyond me
They don't but the Tesla is still the best EV. It's streets ahead of its rivals. Tesla is not Musk.
You won't believe it but everyone still listens to Michael Jackson.

It’s the most expensive, and it might surprise you that I do believe people still listen to Michael Jackson as his work is far superior to the carp currently available
