Isn't that the case for everything in life

you don't use a multi tool over a designed tool for specific job.

I wouldn't let a GP perform an operation when a surgeon is required

Use the best equipment or accept the deficiencies in the do most of it tool

Indeed….
….although your comment above implied many EVs could do the things I had described: “True, but with right EV, big trips are just as easy as with an ICE vehicle”…..
…..when really I think you really said “right now, only a rather expensive Tesla Model X could do what you want” 🤣

🤷‍♂️

We are off for our first holiday in our EV tomorrow, down to Dartmouth for a week. Not many fast chargers in Devon but I’m sure we will manage, I’ll stick 100% charge in it at home this evening and top it up at Exeter. I’ve packed the Granny charger and an extension lead just in case but pretty sure we will be OK without it.

Exeter has a Tesla bank of chargers at hat any can use.
Just have the Tesla App with a bank card registered 👍

Sainsbury’s, on the other hand, has a bank of fairly new chargers that utterly failed for us 👀
First one wouldn’t take a card (phone-based or physical).
Second one started charging, then, after we had gone in to the store (to discover the cafe permanently closed 🤦‍♂️), decided to stop the charge after 3kWh 🙄.

Hence why we found the Tesla centre nearby 😉

We're all going to have to adapt to new zero emission vehicles. If you can keep your ICE vehicle going for as long as possible then, maybe there will be an EV for your special needs

There’s a diminishing issue with away from home charging now. Lots of high speed chargers available on most routes and more in the pipeline.
For the infrequent times we all do long journeys, a minor inconvenience of charging away from home is something we will all need to get used to and plan for.
Something I tend to look for now is places that have at least 3 chargers. They tend to be next to pubs or cafes. One or two tends to mean that they are ill frequented, often out of order or both slots are occupied. A cluster of 6 or 8 is usually a really good sign.

And a forty mile maximum range is useless for any business.
I don't think any EV van is limited to 40 miles. Even then I'm not sure it's entirely useless. My neighbour is a builder - he's just bought a second hand EV Van with about 90 miles range. He isn't planning to do any jobs more than 30 miles from his house.

If it's near your planned route there is a great charging station in Buckfastleigh at Strawberry Fields Farm Shop. Loads of fast chargers and lovely food.

Thanks for the tip @icowden it was perfect, stopped for a cup of tea, used the fast charger and now arrived at our holiday cottage with an 80% charge!

So he's stuffed when that big job comes in, that means working away then

No problem :-) Discovered it quite by accident when I was collecting /dropping my daughter to her DofE Gold Canoeing practice. A very unexpected find!

Only downside was that it’s run by Osprey and the charging cost was very high, however for the convenience it was worth it, we will also use it on the way home, have breakfast and stick enough charge for the 200 mile journey back.

With EV’s you have to get your head around the fact that on holiday using public chargers means that it’s about the same running costs as a small petrol car but it it’s only for a week.

Yes, annoyingly the Electroverse discount is only between 7pm and 11pm.
