I wouldn't count putting a deposit down on a car as a sale. So far fewer than 23,000 are on the roads in North America.

According to Tesla website, the deposit and reservation fee is fully refundable until the point of delivery

They still have their first customers orders to fulfil. Which they don't expect to be able to do before 2026. UPS have yet to see any of the 125 they've put the £15,000 down on. ASKO Norway are not expecting to see any before 2030, and are using Scania and Volvo units whilst they await delivery. What's been paid is non-returnable.

Tesla is sat on a fair bit of customers money knowing it can't keep the delivery dates promised.

You only have to look at how quickly Tesla can ramp up production on a model, by looking at their other models.
