Obligatory fancy technical question - can that googlemap of the route be downloaded into a GPS? Can it be distributed as a suitable file or do I need to recreate myself it in some mapping software?

Jonathan

Non technical answer - Yes it can.

How I don't know. But put your mouse over the save button and you get a choice of "Save to GPX" or "Save to Garmin/CRS". Your on your own from there (you may need to register first).

You may want to re-do one, as a few of the points aren't too acurate and you may end up doing a bit of off-roading

Tricky (as in sort your gears out early) roundabout on an upward slope and remember to bear left into Hill Rise almost immediately and climb the calm climb () to Richmond Park. There's a nice view at the top, as you gasp for breath

Went up Hill Rise for the 1st time on Saturday morning  Needless to say I admired the view at the top... after stopping twice on the way up due to near death feelings

Good on you 'ducky' - the nobs who reside there don't like people dying on their way up...it makes it so difficult to reverse the Bentley out of the drive:tongue:
Remember everyone - spin up these slopes - don't try and bash them because peds get worried at the sound of heavy breathing. Some think their luck has changed but others run out in front of you. And mind the speed bumps - don't take off... ;)

I had a little stop towards the bottom of the hill, to check on the map that I'd taken the right turn where the road forks. Some dame in a VW asked if I knew the way to Church Terrace or something... Yeah, because I clearly looked like a reliable source of local info (huffing and puffing, almost dying of exhaustion and rustling around with a map). Some folks just born dumb ;)

I'm tempted but I've got a work Xmas do (early I know) on Friday

So, if I manage to wake up in time, can remember who and where I am and don't think I'm likely to throw up too many times, I'd like to join you. Promise to stay at the back of the pack if I smell like a brewery!

CoG, could you perhaps PM me your mobile no. so I can let you know if I'm coming on Sat morning?

Will there be more traffic than usual then

How does the traffic move on the A316 before a match? I don't think we want to get stuck in traffic and have to walk past it all. It should be ok after the roundabout, but what about before it?

This is a good point red - I have been thinking about the mass of cars all ploughing their way to the car parks adjacent to this road. (I went into 'Sunday ride' mode yesterday - didn't give a thought to the rugby even though the match was mentioned...) It will be stationary!
Which makes the exit to Apex Corner and then third exit to the Staines Road a bit more likely. Picks up your design at Twick...
The traffic will provide a good photo opportunity and there will be lots of fun and good natured banter - but chockablock! Still, seeing the CCSouthern peloton will give the All Black supporters something to talk about in the evening - they will not want to talk about defeat.

...although if you're all filtering up the side of the stationary traffic queue I'll be stuck in primary position because I'm too wide to filter

It looks as if there's a cycle path running from just after Apex corner to Hospital bridge Road. If the traffic looks really bad we can cut down to Staines Road and give that a try, but it might just be easier coming off at Apex corner anyway.

True dat but with the miles to and from RP... makes it more like 60
Quite a leap

I hadn't even thought about the getting to and from RP. I've just worked it out to be about 5 miles each way, so I'm in the same boat as you, 60 miles in the day. Except you've been doing some training

I plan to get to the meeting point nice and early to re-charge before the big start.

I'll probably need to do the same before heading back home.

edit: I've just realised my route to the park takes me up Richmond Hill

It will be very busy around the stadium and the A316 will be clogged 1.5 hours before kick-off. I'm sure we can work out an alternative return though.

Dah, User1314, this looks like a top ride indeed.
Unfortunately I totally forgot about this thread and have comitted myself to the Lewisham Cyclists Ride down in deepest darkest Kent on the same day.
Sorry fella, scratch me out of this one... but am very intested in any subsequent follow up rides.
