Same here, I received funds within about 24 hours

I have 4K feedback. Am a very regular buyer. And fairly frequent seller. Various limits / stops / checks may be imposed if you’re new to eBay / selling; or it’s your first sale in a while…….(From previous experience of how eBay deals with / vets “New sellers”). Maybe that’s what’s going on here…..

Dunno, I have 179 feedback and 61 things sold (I’m sure I’ve bought more things but I don’t always leave feedback nor receive it)

I've sold several items now, it seems that it takes about 24 hours on average to get the money, some have been longer, some shorter. He ebay line is 'up to 48 hours'. Obviously I prefer no fees and having to wait a day to get the money, but I don't really see why they are holding the cash but I guess they make money from doing this.

They hold the money to allow them to return it to the buyer in the event of a dispute. This is fine except that they typically always side with the buyer, leaving the seller open to false claims / fraud / scams... which is one of the many reasons I no longer sell on ebay.

Happy to pay reasonable fees; not happy to leave myself open to being screwed / generally use a platform that's so horribly loaded against the seller.

I can't see how holding the money for 24 hours helps with a dispute? Surely a dispute would happen after delivery or failed delivery which is likely 1 week+ after the initial sale.

I got scammed this year, on an item I know was delivered, buyer claimed not to have received it.
These things happen, but what boiled my piss that eBay took the side of the buyer and gave me their customer, no assistance and I had to refund the buyer.
Flip side, I made a purchase from an eBay vendor, who then complained I'd never paid him. I had the item sitting on my desk, and I had my credit card statement, but eBay hit me with a 30-day "non-payment" ban for... a vendor claiming he'd shipped me something before he got paid?

The root problem is that, like Amazon and some other vendors, they want to do everything by software "untouched by human hands." And there was no way to get around the automated system to a human, though if I had, it would probably have been some barely-intelligible offshore call center with no authority to fix things anyway.

Fair point; I think the payment time is less for more established sellers, although that doesn't stop them sitting on payments for subsequent items for an earlier dispute.

My final comment on this is that ebay seem to now be holding money for close to their 2-day limit. This is really annoying but I guess better than paying fees!

I sold something Sunday evening, the funds were available to withdraw mid morning on the Monday and hit my bank account before the confirmation email arrived. Can‘t complain about that.

I've noticed the change since Monday. Up until Monday it was averaging 18-24 hours. I've sold things on Monday and still not had the money!

I've sold a very expensive item over the weekend. The money is there but I won't take it out until the buyer confirms they're happy.

I tend to hang on until after the item has been delivered and hopefully got feedback before withdrawing anything, to give the buyer time to have a good look at it and raise any concerns. It rarely happens, but saves messing about if it does. Ebay have recently started making it your responsibility to withdraw payments for items rather than automatically paying into your account. Perhaps they're hoping the cumulative amount of money belonging to sellers sloshing about in ebay's account due to delays in withdrawing will be enough to gain a useful amount of extra interest. I'd rather it was gathering interest in my account as soon as feasibly possible, myself. All part of a creeping trend on ebay's part to have an increasing amount of control over sellers' accounts.
