Chatting to my chum on the Isle of Grain who I was originally due to visit this weekend (ive put it off a few more weeks because of the puppy) and he tells me that as of 0800hrs this morning the petrol station at St Mary's Hoo had them queuing at least a hundred yards up the road.

The local Tesco garage was still empty yesterday when I went past .
One of the major drawbacks is that the filling stations are the last ones before the motorway so there will be a constant flow of traffic past them .

On the way home last night, a Jet garage had a tanker pulled up and the lane for turning right into it was full. Of course, people were still turning left into it, getting ahead of the right-turners. I left before it got to fisticuffs.

Radio 2 news bulletin leading with Labour Party conference, fuel shortage comes second.
I take that as a sign that things are improving.

P.S. For the avoidance of doubt, by "improving", I am referring only to the fuel shortage. I am not of course expressing any opinion on the Labour Party conference.

It is utter lunacy in many parts of Kent presently.

Doesn't help with all the idiots on Facebook letting everyone know the minute the filling stations have been replenished so it starts all over again with people rushing out to get some.

Apparently the Army driver will be ready by the end of the week

perfect timing - they arrive just as the problem goes away anyway
Just right so 'some people' can claim they have sorted it out - bit like the witch doctor ending the drought with a special dance just before the weather changes anyway

I suspect the whole "Army drivers" thing is more about calming down the panic buying, than assisting with fuel delivery.
In which case, it takes some effect from the moment the plan is announced.
