I think that is the way to look at it when you stop smoking (notice i didn't say give up smoking). If you are stopping you are making yourself a promise that you will never smoke again.......i dont think there can be any half measures, no celebratory fags etc. I will never put a cigarette to my mouth let alone pick one up again.....and i have no urge to do so.......i know what would happen if i did and that is the trap of nicotine.
Well done everyone for sticking with it:thumbsup:

I did that several times. The perverse logic is "I'm a non-smoker now so one ciggie isn't going to get me started again"

Wrong actually.

thats me several times. and today i walked past the smoking shed at work and .......

realised how vile it smells and am so glad its over 3 years since i stopped .

And so you should be. Well done Pete.
How do you feel, with cravings etc?

Still get them to be honest although not as strong and pass within 30 seconds or so.

I think if i had a pack in the house i would have light one up, so thats why i have not got any.

But i dont really think about it now, and when i do i just think of having to starting the process all over again, which is a lot worse.

Try the mouth squirter - it really did help me, although it does give you hiccups and does not taste very nice, and it makes you dribble.

The glass of water helps 100%, get a craving, drink some water, I had an old mountain dew bright yellow bottle that i kept topped up for when i was in the car or out.

Put the money you save aside, or spend in advance with dire results if you return to smoking. Ive got an expensive bike with the cash saved and if i smoke the mrs will saw it in half.

Post it here, it helped me, in fact i think it helped the most.

Good luck.

Make your last fag tonight the last....be conscious its your last......dont look back....dont feel like you are giving anything up....try to think of it as not stopping but as beating the addiction.....cos thats what it is!
And remember your cravings are the nicotine not because you want to smoke......if you wanted to smoke you wouldn't be giving up and you have made the biggest step in making your mind up to stop

I guess you have read the rest of this thread so i wont mention a certain book:whistle: (it helps with the feeling scared bit....i felt the same when making my mind up i wanted to stop)

And remember you will so see the difference in your cycling!

OK sermon over..(theres nowt worse than a reformed smoker is there ) ...you can do it......if i can anyone can!!

I wish you success i really do.
