Well done Pete, and everyone else!

I fell off the wagon pretty quickly, after just a couple of days I think. Had a few more failed attempts since (couldn't break the 24 Hour barrier) but am now up to a week and a half. So, fingers crossed!

Keep at it.

Top man - well done pete!

I found personally, after stopping and starting so many times, there just came a time when I knew that was it - the last time and I wouldn't ever smoke one again. After three months, you've succeeded completely.

I've just reached that point, I've given up twice, first time I lapsed for six months, then gave up for another six months, then lapsed over the last three months. Now I am thinking that thus is just stupid. Stopped again seven days ago, had enough now, I've lost all inclination to waste energy even thinking about having one. The price is ridiculous and the effect on you cycling is marked. Three days after quitting this time I was getting up hills much more easily. Well done to everyone on here who has given up, it can be hard. Make the most of the many positive aspects of being a non-smoker.

Heres the thing, i dont get how you can lapse after 6 months.

Ok i am not that far yet, but coming after 3 1/2 months then no way am i ever ever smoking again.

What made you light up after 6 months?

I did that several times. The perverse logic is "I'm a non-smoker now so one ciggie isn't going to get me started again"

Wrong actually.

That's what happened to me when I was 21. I got glandular fever, the fags stopped basically because I was semi concious for two weeks. So there was I, a confident non smoker, so confident I knew I could have the odd puff with no bad consequences. Nope. I was 35 before I finally stopped
