Back in the day I remember when I ran out of fags and nothing was open. I resorted to going through the bin and ashtray and digging out the tobacco from the stubs...xx(

I've been reduced to smoking tea skinned in pages torn from a Gideon's International pocket bible - I'd recycled all the cigarette buts and the recycled cigarette buts.

It was a pretty desperate time...

Before all night garages were common place it was a matter of hunting down outdoor cigarette vending machines and being tapped up for change or a 'spare' cigarette by folk in a similar desperate state of withdrawal as you as you got close to the dispenser of nicotine craving relief.

I don't miss the desperation at all.

Yes! All night garages really changed the game for strung-out smokers. It was bloody horrible before they came into being.^_^

I remember getting dressed at 11.30pm to flog down to the ciggie machine (it was some time ago!), bought 10 No.6 and didn't bother opening them. I just needed to know that they were there in an emergency. Pathetic!

It was the comfort of knowing you had some.

OK.......
was a month ago last night i stopped, should have been a cause for celebration...instead i got a phonecall from an old friend telling me her husband, a close friend of some 30 years died yesterday morning. I hadn't seen them for a while.
He was apparently diagnosed with advanced lung cancer just before xmas which had spread to his bones and he died after coming down with pnuemonia (spelling). He was a smoker.
He didn't want anyone to know so i didn't get chance to say goodbye.
So i'm not in a good place at the moment....but i'm not going to succumb...but i will say this for the people thinking of giving up and those struggling within themselves........

You get one chance at this life........i'll let you work the rest out for yourselves.

Terrible Paul, my sympathies to you.

Clearly none of us know you, or knew your friend, but I'm pretty certain that if he could, he would want you to stay strong and never go near the cigarettes again.

Not read the whole thread, so not sure if anyone's mentioned Allen Carr yet.
I got hold of his CDs during the week, listened for a couple of hours on the bus, and not smoked a cigarette since. Well, smoked a couple when I was listening (he says this is fine).
Not really suffering any withdrawal, have no great urge to buy fags, my feelings towards smoking all seem to be a bit 'meh'.

Just annoyed that I've wasted so much money over the last few years when I got up to 20-a-day, from originally being a fairly casual weekend smoker. I now look on smokers with pity. What pathetic creatures they now look, and what a pathetic creature I once was!

Looking forward to spending the £200 a month extra pocket money on some decent cycling gear :bicycle:

I also stopped with Allen Carr. No withdrawal symptoms, just put out my last fag half way through and thought 'that's quite enough of that rubbish' and never looked back.

Yeah, I had a very similar attitude. I had 1 left in a pack when I got off the bus, smoked it before work and decided I wasn't gonna be spending £7 anymore on my Silk Cut.

Only negative is the working day now seems a lot longer. Getting into the office 10 minutes earlier than usual, not having my 20 minute breaks in the morning and afternoon, and bored at the bus station waiting on my bus. The prospect of that 3pm fag break kept me going after lunch.

It was the 4.30 end of day smoke i really liked. followed by the 7.00 after tea with a beer or JD.

So anyway, still a non smoker ^_^

And i am saving £20 a week, or £1040 a year.

So i started to put my fag money in a pot, and got to £100 already.

Went to the lbs today and blew it, along with the rest of the years "savings" and yes i had the mrs blessings. (they had 0% interest)

Came home with a Trek 6500 in black and orange with a set of DMR V8 pedals :wahhey:
