And how are you feeling?
ie What have you now noticed being a non smoker?

Dont feel any different to be honest, maybe a little bit more energy but thats about it.

However, the big difference is smell & taste have improved so much i hard to describe. Also, my fitness has improved, recovery after a climb and generally how far up the hills i can get. Went all the way up a hill on Saturday that a month ago i could not get over 1/2 way up, and my breathing was easier, and recovered faster.

The other thing you escape from is that rubish situation where you've run out of fags and you need to go out in the snow, go to the nearest all night petrol station, beg a cig off a stranger, knock on your neighbours door etc etc etc

The panic of no fags - sheer terror

Well done Pete, thats a nice milestone.
Well done Cheesney....keep at it.
Well everyone else...

Here's what ive noticed (its not that interesting, but noticeable)
1st week...brain and body's going crazy for a ciggie. You think about a ciggie ALL the time.
2nd week..brains still in a whirl, but the craving's subsiding somewhat.
3rd week..its all clicking into place, you get frequent but mild cravings and its not on your mind half as much.
Starting my 4th week now...chest still feels a tiny bit heavy, like i'm missing something, but i hardly think about ciggies at all now while i'm at work. I quite happily mingle with smokers, it doesnt have any effect on me at all. Evenings are slightly tougher...after a meal etc, but more than manageable.

Only wish i could get out on the bike a bit more to see if its made any difference...new jobs decimated my cycling

Oh yes, good point! I had forgotten about that. When you eventually score there was that rather strange mixture of relief coupled with self-loathing for going to such extraordinary lengths. That's a thing of the past for you peeps now.

Been thinking hard about posting this, but decided to do so in the hope of helpful advice and encouragement.

I am mid 40's and a smoker, have been smoking since about 15 years old, so - 30 years of fags.

I have never been able to give up, probably because i enjoy a smoke, but, i need to put some of my bad habits and old ways behind me. I dont drink, thats not to say never ever, but all over the xmas period ive had 1 glass of cider and 1 jack daniels (a double) so thats never been a problem, its just the fags. The mrs doesn't smoke and cant stand it, and i am now beginning to feel my age a bit, i have realised i am no longer a 30 something that can get away with it.

2011 saw me get back into cycling after about 5 years away (used to have a mtb) and has shown me that whilst i am fitter than some, i am nowhere near what i would like to be.

So, Dec 31st 2011, 11.50 pm was my (hopefully) last cigarette.

I woke at 7.30 this morning and immediately wanted a smoke, all i could think of was smoke smoke smoke smoke smoke - over and over and over. I got up and reached for the mouth squiter nicorette thing ive bought, bloody hell its vile, and doesn't seem to be doing a lot apart from making me dribble.

That said its now 12.41 and i have still not had one. going out for a walk in a min to try and take my mind off things.

I will hopfully quit this time.

For those who have never smoked, you simply do not understand, for those ex smokers, any advice, however small will be gratefully recieved.

I will keep this thread updated.

Just hang in there...your body will thank you in the long run your fitness will be better...and you'll smell nicer...her indoors will like it :bravo:
