Totally agree, Paul. I was smoking a cig knowing it would be my last one. Very strange feeling.

My pal went to an Allen Carr seminar last year and hasn't smoked since. I got the CDs thinking I've got nothing to lose, and knew within an hour or so I had bought my last pack.

Allen Carr deals with the psychology of smoking and the lies or misinformation that exist around it. You need to read the whole book, or do the whole course, to get the complete picture. Once you see the truth and understand how weak the chemical addiction to nicotine really is then stopping becomes straight forward.

The main differences between his method and the standard ones of substitution or abstinence is that he encourages you to continue to smoke though out his course, so you actually break the psychological addiction long before he tells you to smoke your last cigarette.

^^^^^^^what he said ^_^
But i will add that if you have a Kindle you can download a sample of the book for nowt. However as has been said you really need to read ALL the book to benefit as it focus's your mind. There are also plenty of user reviews about the book on Amazon if you care to look. Bear in mind this was the first book of its kind i tried and over 6 million have used it i believe.....and no i don't have shares in the book.....wish i did!

whoops others beat me to it

Well done Pete, it gets easier and easier now.

I stopped my 40 a day habit last July and I actually go whole days without cravings now.

Don't forget to reward yourself

He he ... I did the same; my first month's ciggy money bought me a smart MTB from the LBS round the corner from where I worked at the time and that's what got me back into cycling.

Well done Pete.

So - update.

Still a non smoker ^_^

Went out this morning and really pushed myself, still nowhere as fit as i should be, but defininately getting better, and "the hill" is getting easier.

So my stamina and fitness are improving with a combination of no smoking and more excersize.

Did around 12 miles off road, went homes and then walked into town, called into the local swimming pool to check on opening times in the week as i might try to get an hour in midweek.

Ive noticed that tv programmes and films have loads of smokers in, i dont think any newer ones do, but watched a bit of Dr No - James Bond and everyone seems to have a fag!!!

Still get the pangs and i dont expect them to go away for a long time yet.
