Cut up on Roundabout - partly my fault? (video)

You did make a mistake with that second video, but his response was way over the top. Good driving is about being considerate to others and recognising that other people make mistakes as well.

I doubt that driver has never made a mistake in his life.

He had a touch of the road rage about him....

....he'll end up with a stroke or a heart attack eventually.

Yeah, like I said in the video I was cutting it fine, but his reaction (to speed up and hold down his horn) was probably worst than my actual mistake. I was very careful going to and from work yesterday - thankfully it all went okay. Someone nearly did what I did to the merc in the second video, but my "stingy" use of the horn worked just fine.

Just seen the second vid and I can't see why you entered when you did on that RaB (apart from not wanting to lose momentum). The driver did suffer from a bit of horn hysteria, but you were def in the wrong for causing the incident.

You need to be in much less of a rush.

IMO in the first clip you should have gone round the roundabout which should have taken you around the back of the car, also(it's not evident whether the car was indicating)had I seen this car approaching the RaB at the same time indicating left I would stop and give way to her as she would be crossing from my right.

For all the 'ifs, buts and maybes' you put yourself in a position to end up under his wheels and it would have been considered your own fault.

It is good to remember that motorists will express their feelings if they feel their safety has been compromised, especially by poor cycling.

Sorry Guv but IMO you really don't need to be taking risks like this.

Thomas, I think your cycling is shocking. Imagine if you had been on the roundabout and the merc had tried to 'nip out', you would be going haywire about it. You need to re-do your Bikeability training.

If the merc had pulled out on me I wouldn't have used my horn like that and I wouldn't of intentionally sped up to make more of a problem. I have the video to show that I can't admit I make mistakes too. I quite openly admit I shouldn't have gone. My cycling is 100000x better that the majority of the time.

At the time I thought I had enough momentum to make it. I'll admit that I shouldn't of gone, but there is a thing called over kill with the horn.

I'm well aware, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. On the up side, I didn't end up under any wheels and I've learnt from my mistakes.

Last week was a bad week, from my cycling, this week I'm going to have moved on.

I'd hold it down if appropriate, usually a few taps does the trick (one, two).

I won't criticise too much because we've all done it but it seems to be the human trait oh I must save a few seconds.

I was telling myself today that I should take my bloody time and wait in heavy traffic instead of trying to get past vehicles in tight situations all the time.We all just want to get on with it instead of peeing about in heavy traffic though.

I remember BentMikey asking me a quetion about my Airzound as he was suspecting (at a guess) that my riding must be bad as my airzound was always flat.(I could see what he was angling for).

The actual truth was most of the time I forgot to refill it so most of the time it didn't work.

With my new horn(s) I have an almost limitless supply of (electricity) and I know it is better to use than swearing at peds all the time.I missed it when using the other bike on last Saturday's commute.

I could understand the relevance of that if I hadn't realised I was in the wrong and shouldn't of done it. With the first roundabout I've been taking it fully recently. I think I'll probably start cutting it again as it's easier, but if there are cars from the other side make more of a point then to go around it (which is when it matters). I also realised I shouldn't of gone on the second one and if the driver hadn't been so pathetic I would of apologised and got out of his way as quickly as I could of done.

Yep, I'm not a fan of tight squeezes - always picture them coming sideways. I hate going on the inside of cars and things too.

That's what I like about the horn, it stops you over reacting....which yelling would come across as if you didn't have it.

It's interesting that you admit your mistake, and then slag off the dirver for using his horn. Maybe he thought that by sounding it as he did you may hear it, as you are obviously blind.

No problem with him using his horn, it was the amount. He could of quite easily let of the gas and used a little brakes, but he had to get in front of me just to waggle his finger at me and tell me off.

Before you slag him off anymore, think. He could be sat at home wondering if he could have done something different to avoid the cyclist he killed last week.

Slowed down, not carried on speeding up....

If you had done that to me, I would have probably pulled you over and given you a bloody good bawling out for putting me at danger as well. Just like you did to the girl in the first video.

Think a bit more, and get a better camera, at least Magnatom uses over 9 pixels!

I think his objections related to the driver deliberately speeding up when he saw what Thomas had done. Deliberately threatening and intimidating a more vulnerable person with a large heavy object goes way beyond giving someone a justified telling off.
