Yes, I saw Jimmy Anderson saying that on a BBC TV interview yesterday. It might be a bit of game play from Pakistan but the England bowling coach was taking it as a real possibility and was preparing accordingly.

now confirmed. I think they thought a new strip would be as flat as the first, so this will bring spinners / bowlers in general into it more.

Stokes in for Woakes, Potts in for Atkinson.

Is there a law that says when the host team has to identify the specific pitch.
I presume they have to give a few days notice and can’t just spring a surprise on the day.

Pakistan are batting.
The gamble seems to be that the pitch will deteriorate significantly, so getting a good start is crucial.

yes there is some regulation in there and its ahead of the squads / teams being announced,as obviously it could well effect which bowlers you choose.

The expectation is this pitch will wear and deteriorate, turn more and have more uneven bounce. Pakistan's gamble* has paid off so far a they have wo teh toss an batted so England will in theory have the worst of the conditions in the 4th innings.

*The only picked one quick bowler& 3 specialist spinners, plus they have an allrounder who bowls spin, plus 2or 3 other "part -time" spin bowlers!

England have gone abit more convention, 2 specialist quicks, 2 specialist spinners, plus Stokes as 3rd seamer and Root as extra spinner.
Interestingly BBC commentary reckons it might be doing a bit of reverse swing.

I popped into Lords earlier this season to watch Yorks vs Middx. The chap on the gate told me which stands were open and it was basically sit where you want within that , but did add "you might want to avoid this end of the Lower Grandstand - there are 600 school kids in there!"

The problem of empty stadiums seems to have been solved by very noisy school children constantly screaming, which is making TMS a difficult listen this morning!

It reminded me of school visits to the swimming pool.

Engrossing day's play though.

In the Womens world cup T20, England need to beat WI in this currnet match to gtee going through (if they lose 3 teams will have won 3 lost 1 and hence a runrate equation comes in).

Had a wobbly start (34-3 off 6.1) but recovered to a degree to 141-5* off 20.
*also lost Knight retd with an injury / cramp

Need a decent bowling performance

England now batting. 366 is the target.

Pakistan have gone for a very spin heavy attack.

given how influential England seamers were, and the fact they have backup / part time spinners galore, they are definitely a seamer light in their team selection. It also appears from the BBC text commentary that their sole seamer has injured himself.

Let off for England, Crawley should have been run out. Pakistan player broke the stumps before he had the all in his hand, Nasser called it out straight away on commentary.
